No one who holds to Calvinism should ever be arrogant, think highly of themseves, see themselves as spiritually elite, for all of us chosen by the Father from eternity past to be now found in Christ all deserved hell, and saved only His pleasure and grace and will
the Puritan writers went further. Any known sin, persisted in, and not repented of would result in damnation.
In the early 2000's, Calvinist writers and internet guys would confound fundamentalist preachers and moderate Baptists with Romans 9 arguments and a few proof texts. I remember some guy would follow Swindoll everywhere and constantly challenge him with regeneration preceding faith for instance. Twenty years later the arguments against Calvinism have become more sophisticated with guys like Lennox and Craig and even Flowers.I agree, modern Calvinism is revealing the dog and pony show.

The other thing that has happened is that many of us who got into Calvinism in that same time period did so for different reasons than the philosophical arguments on predestination. We started reading Puritan paperbacks which were newly discovered and found a more serious and satisfying Christianity than the shallow consumer driven, needs meeting, easy believism that much of Baptist Christianity had fallen into. The popularity of Paul Washer and MacArthur and his books on discipleship are proof of this. It was never the metaphysical arguments that we were concerned with primarily.
Yeah. Sometimes I think the Puritans went too far. Their tendency to examine yourself is good if you also understand that perfection is not going to be possible. But many of them dealt with either antinomianism which said once you were saved you could do anything with impunity and Roman teaching which tended to say in practice that you do the rituals required by the church and worry little about practical living. This is hard. So opposite of Matthew 11:28-30. If this is the way it is, I'm going to hell. I can't get up and walk out of this room I'm in without sinning. So, why even try?
Calvin would tan your hide but good!
I couldn't care less.
Ky and I are working on one together called: How to Man Up and Become a Waffling High T MugwumpHave you written any books?
Calvinists think God's choosing us before the foundation of the world is our supposed unconditional election.
Ephesians 1:4, . . . he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: . . .
Ive read that, its pretty good.Sonny Herandez wrote a book defending double predestination in 2022.
Here's an excerpt:
"This chapter will present a consistent supralapsarian approach to defend the following biblical truths: election and reprobation are equally ultimate in the decree of God, and denying the biblical doctrine of reprobation is tantamount to rejecting the biblical doctrine of predestination, i.e., God’s sovereign plan of election.
...
According to the Bible, God created the wicked or reprobates for the day of evil (Proverbs 16:4); thus, the wicked or reprobates will undeniably reject God and act incorrigibly. 1 Peter 2:8 explains why: “…even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed” (emphasis mine).
Therefore, the wicked will in fact stumble and reject the Lord. That is because God decreed their reprobation. So the wicked will reject God in His appointed time, and God will give them over to a reprobate mind. Bottom line: God is the sole ultimate cause of all things, and men are responsible for their sins."
