Which version do you use?

I use the NASB, NKJV, and NLT. I use them somewhat interchangeably, to cross reference what I read in each version. My NKJV is a "Baptist Study Edition" with commentary by Criswell, I like it for travel. Bruce

I use three different King James Versions:
the KJV 1611 edition
the KJV 1769 edition
the KJV 1873 edition.
The differences help illustrate easier
the real deep truths contained within
the written Word of God.
Those are on my computer desk.
The God's Holy Bible that i take to church
is God's written word for the 21st
Century (2001-2100) - the Holman Christian
Standard Bible (HCSB).

Very intresting that most people use more than one translation. I find that my KJV is my study guide for understanding and the NIV is my companinion and story book. While this might anger other people I do apologize but, to me the language in the Niv is understandable I do not have to work to find the meanings it's plain. Where as the KJV is something I must study in order to understand. I don't think thier are flaws in either.

Ed Edwards,
As PastorJeff requested, I would also like to hear more about the Holman CSB. I just purchased it on the CD version (Bible Navigator) from the local Lifeway store.
Regards, Bruce

That probably makes it good news for me that I am more fluent Dutch, French and German. :D ;)
I've got some advice for you. Go find yourself a board that is in Dutch or French or German.

Ed, unlike you, I am not confused as to which Bible is really God's Word for the English-speaking people.

You may think this is "God's Holy Bible" but as far as translations is concerned it ranks near the bottom of the barrel.

Terry, Ed has listed several editions of the KJV, each different from the other. Which one is your fave, and why? This is what pastor Jeff asked.

There are 71 threads in this forum which mention
the HCSB.
The name "Edwards" is mentioned in 110 threads
in this forum.
Try reading this forum.

At the bottom of each of my posts is the
number of posts that I have made.
Click on that number, it will give you a list
of my last 50 posts.

I see no reason to redirect my effort here
from that which is important to that which
some cannot do or will not do.

I have been using the HCSB to teach my
Sunday School class for over a year now.
It seems clearer than the NIV and more likely
to read like the KJV than the NIV does, except
where clarification takes place. Then NIV seems
to try to be different when it isn't necessary.

Pastorjeff: "Ed Edwards,
I haven't seen much of this Holman Bible.
I've heard good things. Tell me why you prefer it."

The HCSB is available on-line for free at:
http://bible.crosswalk.com/
along with many other good Bibles, all
of which and each of which is the Written
Word of God preserved for our generation.
I note only the HCSB is completed in the
21st century (2001-2100) where we now live.

I see Terry had a tongue-sticking icon, but that was not funny. That was reflective of the arrogant ethnic attitude that many KJVo deny (but express) that somehow the English-speaking people were MORE blessed, special, ONLY real Bible, blah blah blah.

Such racism and pride is reprehensible.

I came back for this?

BTW, I use the Greek, both from the cookie cutter copies of the Eastern Orthodox AND the older and better Wester documents.

I use a different English translation for my personal reading (takes a year or two). Have used the Douay, CJB (Complete Jewish Bible), NIV, NKJV, AV1611, NASB, ASV1901, RSV, NEB, Amplified, Tanakh, Weymouth, Dead Sea Scrolls -- and I'm not in my study, so can't look on my shelf of Bible's I've used!

Reading thru the ESV presently.

Yes and he also lives in one of the most racist parts of the country too. When I lived there I could not believe the comments I heard by some people in the church.

BTW, as far as being a racist is concerned, my wife is a Mexican who was born in Mexico. Where was your wife born?

We note this question is being ignored. Doesn't that look foolish :(

I'm hoping that it becomes availiable at e-sword soon.

Where are you at so far and what do you think of it? I have read the entire NT, but not the entire OT yet.

I read eclectically. Couple weeks ago read Jeremiah (since I am preaching through that book). Actually preached out of it, but my copy is smaller print and not good for the pulpit! Now reading Luke.

Last year I read the Bible chronologically and used the AV1611. What a blessing!
