White Lies

If you can find a cheap and unintelligent liar than Ellen White, please let me know. Her hubris first;
Of all the great religious movements since the days of the apostles, none have been more free from human imperfection and the wiles of Satan than was that of the autumn of 1844.

Then she claims that the Day of Atonement in 1844 fell on 22nd October.
The tenth day of the seventh month, the great Day of Atonement, the time of the cleansing of the sanctuary, which in the year 1844 fell upon the twenty-second of October, was regarded as the time of the Lord's coming. This was in harmony with the proofs already presented that the 2300 days would terminate in the autumn, and the conclusion seemed irresistible.
Great Controversy, page 400

That's a huge fat lie, it fell on 23rd September. Now, let's wait for the apologists to regale us on how she had used the Karaite Jews calendar and how they celebrated Day of Atonement one month later than the rest.

You can confirm for yourself when the Day was using any of the readily available online Jewish date converters like this. Just enter the 10.22.1844 first to get the Jewish year and then get the 10th day of the Seventh month (Tishri) of the same year. You will get the Day of Atonement for 1844.

Karaite Jews were not spared in propping EGW 'inspiration' claims. Here in 2000, and sometimes back in 1943 and 1944

<<<21 "But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.
Note that "it is the third day," late in the afternoon, and Jesus is already walking on the road to Emmaus with Cleopas and his friend. "It is the third day" and He is resurrected! How much more evidence do you need? But, even that, you will not believe.>>>

Note this idea is not original. Many Protestants before Ellen White shared such sentiments.
The 1260 years of papal supremacy began in A.D. 538, and would therefore terminate in 1798.
page 266

Why is it another White Lie?
1. Ellen White claims INSPIRATION just like Paul
2. Ellen White claims infallibility
For these, her writings are supposedly free of material error. I may forgive Protestant Reformers for their anti-Romish sentiments and limited access to history, but not a 19th century 'inspired' prophet with Holy Spirit guiding them.

There is NOTHING that happened in 538AD remotely resembling 'papal supremacy'. Let's hear what a historian of Adventist shade has to say about 538 AD, one Samuelle Bacchiochi PhD
The development of the ‘supremacy of the papacy’ began long before 538. In his book on The History of the Christian Church–which has served for many years as the standard text book for church history classes–Williston Walker devotes chapter 6 to the ‘Growth of the Papacy’ during the fourth and fifth centuries. He points out that during this period there were influential popes like Damasus (366-384), Innocent I (402-417), and Leo I, called ‘the Great’ (440-461), who greatly advanced both the spiritual and temporal power of the papacy.

“For example, the last Pope mentioned, Leo I, known as ‘Leo the Great,’ greatly increased the political prestige of the papacy by threatening with hell fire Attila the Hun, when he was approaching Rome in 451 with his terrifying soldiers. Attila obeyed the Pope and withdrew beyond the Danube. Later Pope Leo secured concessions from the Vandals when they took Rome in 452. He is called ‘Leo the Great’ for advancing and consolidating the power of the papacy.

The development of the supremacy of the papacy is a gradual process that can hardly be dated from 538. The process began already in the second century as the primacy of Bishop of Rome was widely recognized and accepted.”

How do Adventists explain this away?
1. The unthinking sheeple go on a hopeless hunt for relevancies in 538AD or 1798AD. Finding nothing they conclude that they will some day just that that's no enough reason to discard EGW 'inspired' garbage

2. The relatively intelligent ones admit the mistakes (glaring errors) and attempt to dismiss them while holding onto her inspiration. They claim that prophets are human, fallible vessels of infallible truths so some margin of error is healthy. But this opens a Pandora's box; it calls for adherents of EGW and scriptures to cherry pick what they think is the truth while discarding 'errors'. That's how somebody can doubt Resurrection of Jesus while still maintaining they are Christians.

Poor Vooks.

But I placed that quote from your arsenal of veil vile, to illustrate whose 'white lies' are blackest. Not to argue about something there is nothing to be argued about.

By the way, cast your load of stress stones on the correct word for pete's sake. Such trivial inaccuracies give me the creeps, if you don't mind, please.

Poor Gerhard,

If you seek to turn aside the counsel of God to suit yourselves, if you lessen the confidence of God’s people in the testimonies He has sent them, you are rebelling against God as were Korah, Dathan, and Abriam.
Testimonies 5 p. 66.
Anything lessening confidence including causing doubt in Ellen White is rebelling against God

Lying and just flat out getting things wrong are not one and the same vooks

But Ellen White insisted her writings had THE TRUTH
In my books, the truth is stated, barricaded by a ‘Thus saith the Lord.’ The Holy Spirit traced these truths upon my heart and mind as indelibly as the law was traced by the finger of God upon the tables of stone.
Letter 90, 1906

Anything other than the TRUTH is falsehood at most.
Bachiocchi struggled with the difference between lying and 'getting things wrong'. The biggest question is, what parts of her writings are WRONG? Imagine attempting to mutate Romans and tossing out stuff Paul 'got flat out wrong'
