This is an important question and I want you to ponder it.

What was the determining factor that caused you to accept Christ while others just like you did not?

Were you smarter than the others?
Were you better than the others?
Did you have more faith than the others?
Did you have more goodness than others?
Were you more religious than the others?
Did you just 'figure it out' while others did not?

Or was it something else? Cast your vote.

I accepted Christ because I didn't want to go to hell, and I knew I would go to hell if I didn't. As for the "others" you speak of who didn't accept Him, you'll have to ask them about that.

God opened the eyes of a six year old boy to the truth even in a compromised Methodist church. He gave me the faith to believe.

It is by grace I am saved, through faith, and that not of myself, it is the gift of God, not of works lest I should boast, for I am His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that I should walk in them! Eph 2:8-10

Why did you accept for study? I hope it is not the same reason Mark gave. Because you did not want to go to hell.

timothy27,

I accepted because I realized having a right relationship with God was where I should be.

The only logical answer given, so far. It's not "fire insurance", it's the truth. If there wasn't hell to pay, there would be no reason to accept Christ.

It was where you should be? What happens when you decide it is not where you should be anymore? Does it matter where God wants you to be? I have noticed that mst of the people that answer in the non-reformed view do not say that they chose Christ because they were shown to be sinners and realized their need for him. Their answers consist of it was where I should be or I did not want to go to hell, how much more anthropomorphic can you get?

That's good Brian accept Christ only so you do not go to hell. Not because you are a sinner or need him, but because YOU do not want to burn. I love the egocentricities of the Arminians here, I really do not need Christ in my life, I am not that bad that He can actually do any good in my life, BUT I do not want to go to hell so I better choose him. Love the pedestal you guys are standing on.

Even if you realize you are a sinner, if there is no punishment (hell) for being a sinner, there would be no reason to accept or even care that Christ paid the price for your sins, would there? I mean, if your destiny as a sinner is the same as someone who accepts Christ, what would it matter if you accepted Him or not? Why would you need Him?

To live the life God wants you to live, because without Him that is impossible. Christ died for the main purpose of restoring our relationship with our Father that was ruined by Adam. So why not "choose" Christ to have that loving relationship be restored. Christ's main purpose was not to save us from hell, but to bring us back to our former light.

I did not "accept" Christ. I begged Him to accept me, if He still wanted me. I could see what a mess I was and how confused and when I got serious about reading the Bible I realized that it was Christ or nothing.

He accepted me. And I thank Him for that every day of my life.

Sure, testimonies are great- and I'm thankful for them, but why is no one dealing with the question head on: Why did you accept (or 'beg for acceptance') or whatever you'd like to call it- when others just like you did not? What was the differenece?
