Why does God allow bad things to happen to his people?

And he was the one that said, "Why callest thou me good?"
The rich young ruler addressed Christ as good master, not knowing of Christ deity but as other people of today that call people good whereas the bible say's there is none good, no not one. Christ also came to men as the son of man so he is telling the rich young ruler not to refer to any man as good, but God only. St. John 2:24-25, But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, and needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
