Why doesnt Baptist Churches support Alcoholics Autonomous. Ive seen many people become clean & sober, become practicing Christians & generally get their lives in order from the program. so why the impasse?

Probably because an autonmous alcoholic wants to be all by himself
Have you ever gone to a meeting?

AA has saved the physical lives of a lot of people and their families. I'm very pro-AA.
It's not a religious organization for crying out loud and doesn't pose as one. And just because it isn't doesn't mean it shouldn't be supported.
You can't solve the problems of the world by dragging them to a Sunday morning service and singing "Bringing in the Sheaves" and dunking then under the water.
God gave us brains to use and discernment to use. Sometimes medical help, competent medical counseling, and having an outlet to talk out ones issues is warranted and saves lives.
One can love the church and support AA at the same time.
And its really the alcoholics who drink in groups that you've got to worry about!
That said, our church hosts two AA meetings a week. We support AA, it works and it helps people.
We have our own recovery groups but I know at least 4 souls saved through AA.
A friend online was a wiccan. Her husband was all new age too. He started AA for alcoholism, his sponsor was a believer, the sponsor led the husband to the Lord, his life change convinced wife that there was something to this and she was saved. Their two children have since made decisions for Christ and they are living a VERY victorious life and are very much a testimony to the life change that God can do!
Yes, I have gone to one. You see, my brother is a regular attender - he insisted I go since he believes I am an alcoholic. He was taught that since our father is alcoholic - then I am one also - even though I have never taken a drink in my life.
There are two other things I did not like. First, the leader stated very firmly to the newcomers that if we thought we did not need to come, that we should keep coming until we realize we need to come. Second, they believe that you can never be healed of the disease of alcoholism -Which means you need to go to AA for the rest of your life. Well, first of all I do not believe that alcoholism is a disease and I believe that with the Lords help - a person can end the abuse of alcohol.
Yes, there have been success of those who have attended AA - but has the saying goes, why have hamburger when you can have steak!
I would prefer our church have a Christ honoring support group - not only for alcohol - but for any addiction.

Think that its due to theim holding to a 'higher power', which can be God/Allah/Buddah etc!
Also, they would prefer it to be done in "biblcal counseling' setting and using the bible and the HS for the helpers!
