The key is looking at the Exceptions which in the main says:
English Language Exemptions

You Are Exempt From The English Language Requirement, But Are Still Required To Take The Civics Test If You Are:

  • Age 50 or older at the time of filing for naturalization and have lived as a permanent resident (green card holder) in the United States for 20 years (commonly referred to as the “50/20” exception).
    OR
  • Age 55 or older at the time of filing for naturalization and have lived as a permanent resident in the United States for 15 years (commonly referred to as the “55/15” exception).
There are more caveats at the link given above.

But isnt the test only given in English - if so, then you must be able to read and write English (or would that be American)
Yes. With a couple exemptions for older people who have been here a long time, for whom proficiency in English is waved, the rest must demonstrate their basic English proficiency. The theory being that after being here for 15 or 20 years you probably have already picked up enough basic English to get by. :)

Have you given any consideration to you being the one who should "learn something?" You seem to be the one who is full of misinformation.

No dear, I'm not the one spreading baloney and I have enough sense to go look things up, unlike many here who just parrot the latest coming from the Trumpies.

First of all, I am not your "dear." Only one woman on the planet has earned the right to call me "dear" and you are not her. Not by a long shot.

And, yes, it is you who is spreading baloney, as I pointed out in the posts above. You are full of misinformation.

Nope...just gotta pass the citizenship test. Can you pass it? There's no requirement for "assimilation" (sounds so Borg-like). You pass the test, they hand you a certificate, a US passport and a form to register to vote. Well, that's what they did at my aunt's swearing-in ceremony.

Ya know, I might be more inclined to take you all seriously if you'd stop being so ridiculous. Do you know what people go through to be granted US citizenship? Honestly, I have seen the most extreme baloney, so easily refuted if someone would turn Faux news off and open their eyes. SMH.

You taking me serious or not is of no real concern to me. Your posts are overcome with hyper-emotionalism and assumptions. The assimilation is the requirements. The specific things you must know and do in order to pass the test is the assimilation. Those requirements have been dumbed down over the years in order to accommodate the far left agenda of creating a new voting block but assimilation is expected and necessary. If you don't want to assimilate then go home.
