It is amazing how far we have slid backward. Spurgeon preached against people going to the theater which in his day was just a play. So you mentioned lottery tickets, would that mean you are all for gambling ? Do some of you people not have any morals at all ? If you promote drinking and gambling why not bring the beer into the worship service and pass out one each to everyone there. Is Bingo night really gambling night in your churches ? Will the church someday turn out to be nothing more than a casino?

You have not read one of my posts. No, I do not gamble and no I do not drink. Neither do I mindlessly memorize a set of manmade rules and obey them under my own power. Do you have a clue as to what being a Pharisee means?

Exactly. Too many fundies love to preach about what they don't do to rally the pharisees and garner 'amens!'. You know, so they can compare their self-righteousness against others. It's utter foolishness. Preach on gluttony, gossip, sowing discord, hatred for others, self-righteousness and their proof-texting fallacies and you'll be hated. When they do the former and disdain the latter it's nothing less than accumulating to themselves preachers to tickle their ears.
:thumbs:IT...............PAINS ME......to say how dead-on you have been on this thread. But you are absolutely correct.:wavey:

My senior pastor has asked that the staff not partake so we will abstain. We also have worked extensively with the college aged kids (and have one of our own) and they struggle enough with alcohol and for their sake, we will not drink to show them that you can live without alcohol.

What we drink on Thanksgiving instead is the Martinelli's sparkling cider. I especially love the cranberry. :)

Sparkling cider is the best drink ever! Got to try some at my cousin's wedding earlier this year.

It really is great, isn't it? This brand comes in regular, cranberry apple, and grape. I love the grape but am recently into the cranberry apple so I picked up two today and I'll pick up 2 of the grape during the week. :)
