The mainstream media, left-wing Democrats, and “Never Trump” Republicans all breathlessly hoped for weeks that former FBI director James Comey’s testimony on Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee would be the beginning of the end of President Donald Trump’s presidency.

Mainstream media cable networks like CNN had countdown clocks. Broadcast networks covered the hearing as if it would go down as one of the most seminal events in the history of the country. “Never Trump” Republicans were getting ready to be used as the mainstream media’s useful idiots and get their predictable television hits and quotes in mainstream media publications. Left-wing Democrats were dreaming of drafting articles of impeachment. They lionized Comey as their hero who would help them destroy Trump once and for all.

Not so fast.


The press and anti-Trump forces on the left and right were still hoping for “new information” that would destroy Trump. But to their surprise—and chagrin—the only new bits of information Comey revealed actually made Comey, the mainstream press, and Democrats, especially Hillary Clinton and then-President Barack Obama’s Attorney General Loretta Lynch, look bad before a captivated national audience.



Before, during, and after Comey’s testimony, the mainstream press looked as deflated as Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James did after Golden State’s Kevin Durant drained a go-ahead pull-up three-pointer in the waning moments of game three of the NBA Finals on Wednesday evening.

I didn't hear any privileged information. Comey released information through a friend when it became clear that he was going to publicly defame Comey be suggesting that there were things that Comey said that may have been recorded.

Trump brought up the conversations and Comey put out his story.

I sincerely doubt Comey will be charged with anything since he apparently didn't do anything wrong - unless the Trump Administration and those who support it begin to lockup political adversaries, then that is entirely possible.

By the way, Comey didn't "hide his deeds." He calmly and carefully explained what he did, along with the motivation. It was clear from the nature of the information revealed that the source of the leaks was Comey. He wasn't particularly hiding anything, except he wanted to get away from the reporters camped at the end of his driveway.

Speaking of hiding, why is Trump being so cagey about the existence of recordings? Can't he just answer yes or no? That's a man that's hiding something.

If you are going to claim that I believe something, I get to correct you.

When I wrote of Trump locking up political adversaries, I was referring to a hypothetical totalitarian scenario where President Trump suddenly has the power to act without restraint and lock up everyone whom he does not believe gives him adequate reverence. It was in response to an allegation that Comey would likely get locked up, that I didn't take seriously.

So no, I don't think that Comey is a political adversary. I think he was a legal adversary, and still is in his diminished state as a private citizen. And I also suspect that Comey is not now, at least, a supporter of President Trump.

I can't think of a single good reason why he would want to conceal whether or not there are recordings unless he is doing something wrong. We'll see where this goes since it is now a major focus of the investigations.

My concern is that we have a President who seems to have all kinds of ties to Russia through his own business empire and his reelection campaign and administration. He is uncritical of Russia and does not seem concerned that the Russians interfered in our election. That is curious and can go all the way to treasonous, depending upon what the investigations uncover.

It Trump is simply incompetent, I want him to go back to private life. If he is a traitor, I want him to go to prison for the rest of his life.
