EXCLUSIVE – Mother of Roy Moore Accuser Contradicts Key Detail of Daughter’s Sexual Misconduct Story

Birmingham, ALABAMA — The mother of Leigh Corfman, who says that Alabama Senatorial Candidate Roy Moore tried to engage in a sexual encounter with her when she was 14, has contradicted a key detail of Corfman’s story.

Speaking by phone to Breitbart News on Saturday, Corfman’s mother, Nancy Wells, 71, says that her daughter did not have a phone in her bedroom during the period that Moore is reported to have allegedly called Corfman – purportedly on Corfman’s bedroom phone – to arrange at least one encounter.

The rest of the story, from the Breitbart article:

Corfman’s mother, was asked by Breitbart News: “Back then did she have her own phone in her room or something?”

“No,” she replied matter-of-factly. “But the phone in the house could get through to her easily.”

Oh, Breitbart EXCLUSIVE!! Leigh Coffman didn't have a phone IN HER ROOM, but the cord reached in there. Still, she's a LIAR! She said she had a phone IN HER ROOM! She didn't! KEY DETAIL! Liar!

Awesome reporting.

Liars always trip over the details.

What else did Wapo or the girl get wrong?
She had a phone in her room. It was the family phone that Leigh would take into her room. I was a teen in the 70's and I can tell you the family phone was basically mine, since I used it 10X as much as my parents did.

That's what she said. It isn't true.

She says she talked to Moore on her phone in her bedroom.

She didn't have a phone. Period. But her family did. And it wasn't located in her bedroom. Period.

Details. Details.

When you set out to ruin a man's life and reputation, you need to get the details right.

I wonder how much she was paid.

Telephones had cords in those days. The hard-wired phone that we originally had in the house I grew up in (1965-1986) -- before the breakup on the Bell system -- had a cord that was about 12 feet long. Later, when we had a modular jack installed instead of the hard-wired phone, I bought a long cord (about 20 feet) from Radio Shack and the phone could be moved even farther away from the plug.

Now, to the specifics: I did not have a phone permanently in my room -- it was in the hallway. When I wanted to make a call or talk to a girlfriend, I would pick up the old rotary phone pull it into my room (cord going under the door) and close the door.

I talked to my friends and girlfriend on the phone in my room without having a phone installed in my room. Like this woman's mother said, "... the phone in the house could get through to [me] easily."

There is no necessary contradiction. Period.

Details. Details.
Yes, details matter. I'm guessing a lot of Breitbart readers are to young to remember (or won't remember) how wired phones worked in a typical home in the South. With the exception of all-mounted telephones, the wired phones were much more portable than one might imagine. Period.

Seizing upon this detail that some readers might not understand reveals the desperation of Moore's defenders. Period.

Sorry like with Trump you seize on any critics of a conservative you can even when it is questionable. Honestly since Trump you have lost credibility with you sophomoric arguments

Yet another baseless accusation.

Honestly since Trump you have lost credibility with you sophomoric arguments
I can't even explain the reality of Bell telephone systems of the 1960s-1980s in the South without it being a "sophomoric argument." That's rich.

Funny. There is no proof at all to back up her accusations. None whatsoever. But Trump haters dive right in.

Even when caught lying about the details, they believe what they want to believe. Proof is not needed. Just the accusation. That's all it takes.

Hate rules the day.

So this is about Trump, eh?

Interesting...

And yes, you've gone back to the broad brush of any argument that opposes you is hatred of Trump.

And please note that I'm not backing up Leigh Corfman's accusations, in fact I'm questioning them, but am just pointing out that Breitbart's EXCLUSIVE news story is a sham.

Precisely.

Apparently the issue is really not whether the accusations are true or not, but whose team you are on. Some of us haven't signed up for a team. We're only interested in what is true.

Same here. I have no idea whether or not the accusations are true, but I still know how to think critically about facts and evidence in the age of Trump.

I had the same situation, but would never describe it as a "phone in my room." I think it's at least reasonable to consider this along with Moore's claim this relationship never happened. In fact, it was so long ago, I'm wondering if should could be mixing him up with someone else. As far as i'm concerned, he is innocent until some evidence of guilt comes out.

Well, it's not just that - the phone claim was not a direct quote, could have been something the WaPo wrote paraphrasing her but her story and her mother's in particular still don't make sense.

Supposedly, she met Moore outside the courtroom, where the mom was supposed to go to a custody hearing. She was 14 years old at the time, yet Moore offers to babysit her? She is far old enough to be THE babysitter, and I don't know what it was like in Alabama back then, but at that age in CA the child called the shots if both parents wanted custody. And if there was no reason for Leigh to appear in the courtroom, why didn't she just stay at home?

You could say the mom was strict, but the girl is getting phone calls from strange men and then sneaks out to meet the guy at the corner like a streetwalker? Moore was supposedly ambitious and a bit sanctimonious even then, yet he hits on teens at his place of work? Doubtful, and then there's Leigh's "voted for Trump" claim - she is supposedly a victim of a sexual assault and fears she wouldn't be believed yet must not have been affected at all by Trump's suggestive remarks and the other allegations against him. She voted for him???

Frankly, she looks like hot mess - all the marriages, divorces, petty misdemeanors and previous accusations scream emotional stability and yes, it does matter in a case like this.

She has everyone right to pursue a trial, and that's what she should do of this is all true. But I'm sick of pre-election hit pieces like this, especially one's orchestrated by political operatives like WaPo. As a voters, I would ignore this until there is something substantive. In fact all pre-election hit pieces should be suspect until proven substantive. Anyone can and will make wild claims, especially if they're being offered money.
