You say this. Though I don't have a problem with women leading the music, one time I visited a church where a woman sang a solo. By the end of the song, people were weeping from the spirit moving. A few people went to the altar at the spirit's move to pray.

Then the quenching came. She started saying that if you were moved by this song, then you should be at the altar. Then after her stinging tongue, she sang the song two more times.

Well, guess what. Wrong statement. Why be abusive??

Folks, just let the spirit move.

And teaching...
If God gifts them, let them.

In our church, women sing, women teach, and women pray... Men are the deacons, and preachers...

Absolutely not. I don't even view preaching or teaching as "holding authority" over others.

Well, when someone asks others to "lead" in prayer or song, it is hard not to get that impression.

Furthermore, those we ask to lead in prayer at our local assembly are only the men who have been there some time, or that are visiting that we have known for some time. We don't hold lightly the act of praying, especially with who we choose to lead it.

As far as song leading, it is certainly a leadership position in most churches, as in ours.

The issue of women's roles in worship has been beaten to death in other threads. I do not understand why the question of authority has to be brought into the discussion. At my church and many other churches I have visited over the years, women have taken all the roles in worship, preaching, praying, reading scripture, singing, leading singing, playing instruments, etc. As with the men who do these things, some do them better than others. For example, my church is in a pastor search. We have had two women preach before we chose an interim. One did very well, but I could not understand the other at all, so I got nothing out of the sermon.

I think we should be careful when we use the Bible in ways that put limits on God. In the OT just when the Israelites thought they had God figured out, God did something new that caused them to have to throw out their assumptions. The coming of Jesus did the same thing to the Jews. We need to wary of falling into the same kind of trap.

I think we should be careful when some joker tries to undo the limitations God has put in His word.

God may do new things, but never something that goes against His word.

I am also having a hard time taking Bible truth from someone quoting Neil Young... but, keep on rocking in the free world.
