Women wears open toed shoe, shunned from IFB Church

During a recent thread it was mentioned that women perhaps shouldn't wear
or were forbidden from wearing open toed shoes on "the platform". I am curious as to what this is based on and do churches really forbid such.

I've heard of some ultra conservative Churches not approving of skirts above the calf, no pant suits but never have I heard of the "toe troubles".

Anyone brave (or stupid) enough to give me the answers. I tried to google and didn't get anything. Only fashion pages, olo

Churches are made up of people. People hold to all kinds of views some good some not so good. Why someone would justify such a thing is beyond me. In the end who really cares. It serves no purpose to know and anyone experiencing that kind of legalism should just go find a church that has its head on straight.

It's just one of those things a man needs to know. My wife wears open toed shoes, whatif, I was invited to Preach at a church and she accompanied me and we made that faux pas and got scolded and I embarrassed some folk.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Apparently it's verboten in some fundamentalist circles. For example:
Why did he allow necklaces and finger rings, but not earrings? What was wrong with open-toed shoes? Why were her daughters not allowed to share clothing since they were the same size, and how did such sharing cause jealousy? Why was the assistant-pastor's wife allowed to wear the same dress that Bonnie had brought for her daughter but had had to return because it was "inappropriate"? Why was Carl allowed to break every one of his own child-rearing mandates with his own grandchild? Why were the children not allowed to visit other churches, and why were families not allowed to visit relatives during the holidays? What was so wrong about missing one church service?

Bonnie began realizing that Carl's interpretation and practice of doctrine were not consistent with the Scriptures. There was an extreme emphasis on attitudinal sins such as rebelliousness and pride, and an unhealthy dependence among the congregation on their pastor. There was a total lack of accountability to any elders on Carl's part, a defensiveness of his ministry that grew over time, and a strong attitude of superiority and exclusivity. "No one else teaches the whole counsel of God like this." "Carl Plummer is our Apostle Paul."

Do PB churches act that way?

I've been known to wear flip flops to church (not the cheap Old Navy ones but nice looking ones) and other sandals to church. I guess I'd be condemned to hell??

For the record. It has not been said in this post that any clothing is a damnable (sorry blackbird) thing. It is noted that we all believe that only unbelief in Jesus as the Christ and perfect atonement is the thing that will keep one from eternity with said.

You'd have to go home to have a brew.

Is that an invite to your home for a brew? You know if you invite one Yankee you have to invite us all.

Back to the OP. It was 18 degrees and snowing this morning when I left the house. This little storm system is supposed to linger through the weekend which includes Sunday. You know what I'll see at church?

Women with blouses buttoned to the neck, topped by a sweater of some sort and a scarf wrapped around their neck.

The women wearing pants will be excommunicated after their flogging. Not really. To the unknowing eye it may be construed that the womenfolk are wearing form-fitting garments. What you see is really what happens when the womenfolk take to wearing the winter woolens.

The women that wear dresses will wear ones long enough to reach the top of their boots - which brings me to open toed footwear. Really?

Maybe late May or early June but that open toe option comes to a screeching halt by September. If I have a man in my church that gets all in a tither about open toed shoes during the three month window of feasibility that feller needs to take along walk off a short pier preferably into cold water.

Surely it's not "sensual" issue? The comment included "on the platform" I guess they are fine as long as they stay off "the platform".

Jack Schaap used to rant against open-toed shoes. Turns out he should have worried about other things. I don't recall that he ever blamed naked toes for his downfall.

I grew up in a church with plenty of legalistic rules, but I've never heard of this one. What is the objection to open-toed shoes?
