World Population Growth reached
1 billion in 1804
2 billion in 1927
3 billion in 1960
4 billion in 1975
5 billion in 1987
6 billion in 1998
7 billion in 2010
8 billion in 2022

Billions. Hard to get my brain around so many zeroes. But easier (and in most ways much sadder) to understand that on our planet TODAY 170,790 people in this world will DIE.

DAILY DEATHS (average, 2024)

1. 31,973 China
2. 26,166 India
3. 8,341 United States of America
4. 7,416 Nigeria
5. 5,917 Indonesia
6. 5,100 Russia
7. 4,434 Pakistan
8. 4,217 Japan
9. 4,102 Brazil
10. 2,805 Germany

The largest mission board in the US estimated that of the 170,970 who die each day in this world, more than 150,000 are NOT, by their own admission, truly “born-again Christians”. This is sobering. And personal to me. I am nearly 77 (expected lifespan of a male in Wisconsin) so recognize limited time/energy left to proclaim the Gospel. But I will. I can. I must.

I live in a "retirement community" - the Moravian churches mission in our area is not day care, schools, hospitals, etc, but "seniors". In 1969 (I was in seminary) they started a 20-bed nursing home on 50 acres of orchards here in Watertown, Wisconsin. I had the opportunity to preach at it. Over the decades, this has expanded into huge complex of buildings, condos, apartments, two assisted-living and memory-care facilities, a rehab and nursing home, fitness center, 2 restaurants, and 72 independent living duplexes where they take care of the physical work, upkeep, etc. About 500 residents!

I have been given the opportunity to preach this summer on 4 Sundays. Live, livestream on our own TV system, etc. This is MY mission field. And the realization that I am one of the youngest of the 500 living in our "village", pressed these statistics home in spades to me. Faithful to the end, even though my end may be nearer than yours.

Don’t look back. I’m gaining on you.

Is anyone here under 60?

Under 50?

It seems most of us have passed 70.

We’re living on borrowed time, not Tulsa time.

Good news though, is those that make it to 80 have a really good chance at 90.

My momma just turned 90. The oldest any person in her immediately family has lived by several years. Only her and her youngest sister (80) are still living out of 13 children.

peace to you

The world's population will not reach 9 billion any time soon. Birth rates everywhere except in Africa are falling like stones, and the only reason that the population is not falling right now is because of medical advances keeping all us old fogies alive
.
Here in Britain, we are having to bring people in from the Commonwealth to be care workers because we can't find British people to do the jobs. This is not wholly a bad thing. We have people in my church from Uganda, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Nigeria, and they are lovely people, all prepared to work hard and to accept British customs. I had thought that they wouldn't stay at my church because they would prefer something more charismatic, but no! They want to hear the Gospel.
