Would a Preemptive Attack on North Korea be Justified? Considered Self-Defense?

North Korea has stated in specific terms how it would attack Guam, a U.S. territory. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been rattling sabers against the U.S. for years, really ramping it up of late with missile launches and claims of being able to reach the US with a missile and the ability to fit a nuclear device on one of these missiles.

Would a preemptive attack on North Korea be justified? Could it be considered self-defense?

Bonus for describing what the US should do if they were to attack.

It would mean the death of several million people very quickly. Soul, South Korea would disappear as a city and end as a nuclear waste land. So would much of North Korea.

There is no way to know for sure what China or Russia would do. One of China's great fears is chaos anywhere around their boarder and especially NK. They really do not want thousands upon thousands of refugees pouring over their boarder. There is just no way to really predict their response.

What if the preemptive attack was an EMP bomb that takes out North Korea's ability to launch missiles?
What if the preemptive attack is to otherwise destroy the missiles?
What if the preemptive attack was to hack the missiles so they wouldn't launch?
What if the preemptive attack was to assassinate Kim Jong Un?

There was a rabbi in the 90's who said North Korea would prove to be Gog, which attacks Israel. Since it's not exactly common for an aggressor nation to state its intentions of attack overtly (Japan?), suppose it's Israel that Poppin Fresh Korean intends to go after?

North Korea has something like 12,000 pieces of artillery plus other weapons within striking range of Soul. They do not have to depend solely on nuclear weapons to inflict serious damage. Something like 22 million people live in Soul.

We must remember that NK has used this type of bluster talk for decades. They know if they start a war they will be wiped out. I expect they also know that Trump's words are bluff. Of course there were similar types of talk in August 1914. Politicians made serious mistakes then and it cost millions of people their lives.

---------------------------------------------------

The North Korean People’s Army Artillery Command is responsible for 12,000 pieces of tube artillery and 2,300 pieces of multiple launch rocket artillery over 107-millimeters. The majority of tube artillery are 122-, 130-, 152- and 170-millimeter units, and on the rocket side the majority are 240-millimeter units.

Could North Korea Annihilate Seoul with Its Artillery?

I think we should wipe them off the face of the earth.

Maybe we could combine some nuclear winter with some global warming and come up with an a reasonable solution.

We need to disable/disarm the nuclear weapons before launch. Only problem is getting 99 out of 100 is not good enough.

Fission energy is coming back to haunt us. We figured out how to make hellfire and brimstone. Now what?

Who is selling this stuff anyway? We are headed for another arms race.

Gun running is second only to opium selling.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Sure we could justify it, but the rest of the world most likely wouldn't agree. And if we attack, it has to be a massive attack with nukes, anything less would allow the tubby Korean to start lobbing artillery shells southward into Seoul.

How about a positive approach? Peace is a lot cheaper than war, so can 'we' help with trade, construction, in return for freedom of religion, cultural exchange, etc.

North Korea was totally devastated during the 1950s war, & has been kept as a 'pariah' state ever since. We must not forget that so-called enemy countries are populated by ordinary people like us, who want to live in peace, & who are included in God so loved the world.

Sometimes saber rattling gets a little nerve racking.

The answer is somewhere in: "vengeance is mine saith The Lord, I will repay."

See also: "Blessed are the ones who make peace."

The Prince of Peace is coming soon.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Five years ago, with the Kaesong Industrial Region up and running, it seemed like a positive approach could prevail. But when the guy at the center of the cult of personality isn't rational...

What did Jesus teach about treatment of your enemies?

Your reply is simply a humanist reply, strait from the evil one.
What does Jesus do in Revelation?
Your reply is naieve. By your line of logic, how should we have handled Hitler in WWII?

Clinton tried your idea. That is what got us in the current mess.

Oh Baloney CBT.

The USA is the "higher power" of Romans 13.
We call ourselves the strongest nation on earth.
The world looks (or used to look) to us to be the global police.

In the case of NOKO EVEN the UN censured them 100 PERCENT..
Everybody (including Russia and China) wants SOMEONE to be the global police chief!
Un threatened to turn us to ash.
He has depicted as such on their national TV.
This was long before the POTUS used his inflammatory words of which I approve.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

If they fire missiles in our direction (Guam) then they will receive "fire and fury" as they so richly deserve.
However, the guidance systems are 1990 Russian ICBM. They have no guarantee WHATSOEVER of purposely missing the island of Guam claiming they will only come close.

If they fire 4 of them there is an almost 100 percent chance of one of them actually hitting the island itself if we can't shoot them down.

Yes there are innocents who will die just as there were in Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

President Trump is of the same ilk as presidents Truman and Kennedy.

I'll toot my own horn -- Even before he became the POTUS I said President Trump will in all likely hood bring us into WWIII (just as Hillary would have), but at least with Trump we have a chance of winning and surviving.

WWIII is inevitable and has been a LONG time coming,
JFK averted it by threatening Khrushchev with the annihilation of Moscow.

If Trump wins by calling Un's bluff he will have bought us some time, maybe even a generation if China and Russia put their stamp of approval on Trump/USA as the global police chief WHICH IS WHAT THEY WANT THEMSELVES -anyone, even us. They would prefer a bloodless communist revolution which has been the general direction of our nation under the leadership of liberal leftists,

If Un ignores the POTUS and fires the missiles - welcome to WWIII (depending on China and Russia).
It maybe miraculous that they were among the 15 to censure KJU.

I believe you said you are a veteran CTB?

For her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Pay her back even as she has paid, and give back to her double according to her deeds; in the cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her.
