This should be a simple question, but some will try to make it more. But, suppose we get past the urge to preach your own views, as a believer, if you were in the position of having not only your name as Clerk on the license , but had to sign it, would you do as ordered by a group of bleeding heart, socialist leaning attorneys acting as judges for SCOTUS ... Or would you hold the fort and not want your name associated with same sex marriage?

Keep in mind, when you took the job, this pagan, sodomite law was nonexistent; and you love the job ... would you give up you livelihood for what in all rights, is political pandering to a small minority of Americans desiring to live out their sexual sin?

I personally would have stepped down. I left a job that transferred me to a position that I was not comfortable with in the past and as soon as I realized this job would go against my faith, I'd step down and find something else. I know it's hard when you don't have any real formal training and you have been doing the same job since you were 19 but still - it's what I would have felt the need to do.

I haven't been following the story but she should have told her supervisor about her religious convictions.

The HR person would have been responsible to:

1. Dismiss her from her position (where she may have a legal case against the employer if they did)

2. Find a way around the problem (get someone to back her up that doesn't have a problem with it).

3. Find her another position (may mean a salary reduction)​

Having gone to the HR representative, if she was put in this position the representative would be the responsible party in this lawsuit.

I'm ever amazed at how stupid people can be!
IMO the judge is an dumb knee-jerk activist and should be dismissed for not dealing with this in a responsible way.

By law we accommodate handicapped individuals and even strongly protect their rights. Our foundational constitutional rights demand religious freedom from prosecution by the government.

He should have found a way to settle the matter instead of causing a constitutional crisis.

The problem is that this is an elected office and not a regular job. There is no HR and there is no firing. The board that would need to convene to impeach her does not meet again until January 2016.

This is an insubordination issue. She took an oath that she would do a job. Part of that job is to issue marriage licenses. It doesn't matter what she thought that entailed when she took the job, no one specified to her that it wouldn't entail what it does now.

If she can't do the job she needs to resign.

Because my state's law does not recognize homosexual "marriage", I would have no choice but to do exactly what she did.

I don't want to go to jail, but I also don't want to set the example for my children of somebody who just goes along with tyranny.

Just a few short years ago, if we had been talking about American citizen being arrested as political prisoners, I never would have believed it. I lived in the Philadelphia suburbs in the late 80s-early 90s and there was a guy on the radio then named Irv Homer. I always thought he was a bit of a nut. Just some crazy conspiracy theorist. But now, literally, every crazy conspiracy theory of his that I used to laugh at is coming true.

Scary times. Make sure you have your house in order.

While I admire her stand in opposing gay marriage, I'm not sure that her being sent to jail is really going to reduce the number of gay marriages either in KY or anywhere else for that matter.

Most gays who are determined to get married will simply go somewhere else where the government official will sign their marriage license.

While I'm inclined to believe that Kim Davis is sincere in her convictions, I'm not 100% certain that going to jail for them is really going to accomplish any significant reduction in gay marriages, especially given the fact that most all of our current executive branch officials openly support gay marriage. The Supreme Court has made a final ruling stating, in effect, that the US must recognize the marriage of two gay people as being just as legal as a marriage between a man and a woman.

I certainly don't agree with it, but about the only way I know of to reverse a Supreme Court decision is to actually amend our Constitution. To my limited knowledge, that's only been done once in our history when the Constitution was amended to once again allow the usage of alcoholic beverages to "adults."

The only actual reference in the Bible that I can recall that actually had a world ruler lose both his empire & his life as a result of a drunken orgy was when Babylonian emperor Belshazzar held such a party and then faced destruction when God wrote on the wall of both his empire's & his own personal life the soon-coming doom of what was once the most powerful empire in the OT biblical middle eastern region,

That's not proof. That's your opinion.

If SSM is not the law of the land of Kentucky, why is it that as soon as Kim Davis is removed from her job, her deputies stepped in and issued marriage licenses? Why does the governor of Kentucky say that Kim Davis was "not doing her job" when she refused to grant marriage licenses to same sex couples? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the governor of your state knows more about the legality of SSM than you do.
