Technically, deliberately targeting civilian populations is a tactic that has almost universally failed to achieve military victory. The best example being Germany attacking population centers to exterminate mass civilians in Russia and England, Japan killing mass civilian populations in China, and the Muslim Terrorists attacking civilians to destroy Europe and the United States. Which of those achieved the desired objective rather than solidifying resolve of the resistance and unifying their enemies?
I would think it would not be a good ideal for the President and Congressmen to go into combat......

I struggle with the self defense argument.
If it’s violence toward me because of the cause of Christ, I would hope to maintain the example of our Lord and all the martyred saints of not responding with violence.
If it’s an issue of my family being threatened, I believe I would do everything within my power to protect them, even if it meant deadly force.
I ask for God’s mercy in never facing such decision.

Harry Truman dropped an A-Bomb on two Japanese cities, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians. I know there were military operations there, but civilians nevertheless. Do you think Japan surrendered because of the loss of military production?
Russia starved 20 million Ukrainians to death by destroying their crops and captured the country.
Civilians have always been targeted, directly or or indirectly.
There is no way to sanitize war. The results are always brutal. Many believe Christian’s should have no part in it.

Gideon, Samson, any of the judges in Israel, were all fighting wars and they were chosen by God to do their jobs. Joshua led Israel into the land and they fought with the inhabitants of the land.
There is no real difference between then and now.

When looking at whether or not we should be involved as Christians, there is no answer that will always satisfy the question. Every individual should always be asking themselves and their Lord, “Am I doing what my Lord wants me to do today?”
If you can answer that question correctly on a daily basis, the bigger picture questions like this one will sort themselves out.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

I do not think that we should wag war though against civilians as being the same targets as the soldiers we are fighting against, as know while will still be colleterial civilian deaths, they should not be targeted same way the soldiers are

Well, yes there is a big difference now.
Christians are not chosen by God to inhabit a particular land. We are strangers in a foreign land, wayfarers, sojourners.
Our kingdom is in heaven, not on the earth. We are salt and light, a force for peace and godliness.

Obviously we are not going out to conquer in the name of holy war. That was not the question or the answer.
Convenient for you to cut off the part that you don’t want to address.
There is no difference now based on the verse I gave you that you are hiding from the continued conversation.

There are times when we might fight, for if the US did not engage against Hitler, we would all be speaking German as our native tongue now

Your opinion here reminds me of all the sermons I have heard about Samson disrespecting his parents when God was directing the events. Judges 14.
It just doesn’t seem right to say God is orchestrating the events and I want no part of it or that what God is doing is wrong for me to participate in.
Boil it all down it’s just sours like you are saying yes God is doing it but it’s wrong.
We were under obligation to stop Hitler, or else all of us would have had our concentration camp experience
