The question is 'is faith a work'?
I saw post #76 and you're wrong...faith is a fruit of the Spirit and not a work that man does.
that Faith was not a fruit of the Spirit
Are you basing that faith is a work solely on Matt 23:23?
Thats enough ! See post 76 for even more ! Now are you going to address the points made or continue evasion !
.God gives us faith, we don't work faith
Jesus is the one teaching that Faith is a work of the Law, See Matt 23:23 ! So you have to show me a contradiction. Do you have a scripture where Jesus says that Faith is not a work of the Law that ought to be done ?Okay, so if believing and faith are works, you negate everything Jesus said to gain salvation.
Jesus is the one teaching that Faith is a work of the Law, See Matt 23:23 ! So you have to show me a contradiction. Do you have a scripture where Jesus says that Faith is not a work of the Law that ought to be done ?
None of you have pointed out a contradiction. Not one of you can provide a scripture that says that Faith is not a Work of the Law, whereas I have provided one that does Matt 23:23 !Several of us have pointed out contradiction to your stated point, savedbymercy. You've flat out refused to even consider our points. You even changed the wording of the scripture to make it fit your ideal, claiming that "weightier matter = work."
I've even asked you if the written words of Jesus in the Bible carry more weight than the written words of the apostles, seeing as both are contained in the Word of God, and we are told that all scripture is divinely inspired and profitable. I don't recall seeing an answer from you.
Is loving God a work? Answer this, and it will lead to whether there's a contradiction or not.None of you have pointed out a contradiction. Not one of you can provide a scripture that says that Faith is not a Work of the Law, whereas I have provided one that does Matt 23:23 !
Faith is one of the weightier matters of the Law that ought to have been done ! You can't get around it !You are lumping together "weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith" as works. It is "weightier matters" or "more serious issues" of the law, judgement, mercy, and faith. It should be read as:
weightier matters of the law
weightier matters of judgement
weightier matters of mercy
weightier matters of faith
None of you have pointed out a contradiction. Not one of you can provide a scripture that says that Faith is not a Work of the Law, whereas I have provided one that does Matt 23:23 !
Those two verses tell us the God counts our FAITH for righteousness, even when we don't have WORKS. How, then, can faith be a work when the Bible right there says it is not? How can faith be a work when the Bible says "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast"(Ephesians 2:8-9)?Romans 4:5-6 said:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
That scripture does not say that Faith is not a work ! Faith is a work of the Law that ought to be done ! Matt 23:23 !You have framed the argument so that you are asking those standing against you in this thread to oppose a Bible verse, but you are the one taking the verse out of context. Note this:
Those two verses tell us the God counts our FAITH for righteousness, even when we don't have WORKS. How, then, can faith be a work when the Bible right there says it is not? How can faith be a work when the Bible says "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast"(Ephesians 2:8-9)?
Good grief, I can't believe we're still going over this...
