People's right end when they start carelessly jeopardizing the lives of other's loved one over political conspiracy theories. In that case "your aren't" need to be afraid of the government but rather of the people "your" offend.

They even acknowledge that it helps alleviate hospital capacity, resources and even allows for more strategizing. I find it hard to believe that doesn’t translate into saving lives in response to your misleading thread title, especially in areas where hospitals are already overrun.

What the article doesn’t do is recommend against hunkering down either.
Well, had you read it you would have understood that it only delays the peak. It doesn't reduce it.

This is their conclusion.

A call to honesty in pandemic modeling

Yes, the authors are correct that if we just go back to lifting containment measures and nothing else changes then we are just delaying the same number of deaths. But there are things we can do with time that we buy with hard shutdowns that can significantly change the course of the pandemic.

Coronavirus: The Hammer and the Dance

Tomas Pueyo's popular "The Hammer and the Dance" model addresses the concerns of Chikina and Pegden with a model that starts with an initial hard suppression '"hammer" to stop that initial wave and buy time to do things like:
1. increase critical care capacity
2. decrease community infectivity with social habits and masks
3. learn more about the virus
4. get more data on effectiveness of treatments
5. understand the cost and benefits of social distancing

And follow that with longer term pulsed social distancing strategies that increase or decrease depending on case numbers in a “dance” that keeps infection levels under control until a vaccine is developed.
The simple fact of the matter is that lockdowns are not going to reduce the number of infections or contain the virus. That is impossible. The only thing that will do that is treatment. We have to resign ourselves to the fact that that virus is here, and most likely here to stay, and it's going to kill a very high number of weak people intially. (Darwinists should be glad.) . You're not saving lives or flattening the curve with prolonged sustained lockdowns. You need to prepare for the surge and take the shackles off and get back to work. God hasn't suspended the if-you-don't-work-you-don't-eat principle.

(Oh, and add to that, we need to hit China back.)

Conventional wisdom is that we will as long as we isolate ourselves.

Bull...! Pure ignorance!

The only thing that will do that is treatment.
Get it through your head that we need TIME to get these treatments! Otherwise millions would die!

Would you care to hazard a guess as to how/why the gov of virginia chose June 10 to stay at home. People are showing whether or not they are accepting of socialism right about now. This virus pandemic panic has really played well for those who favor government control. The over reaches are breathtaking in what they will not allow. Nothing but government, & groceries basically. What is going to restock those grocery stores in a short while? We have no grain reserves like we used to have. If the farmers can not plant, you will see the effects of this really come to fruition. You are letting your emotions control your ability to reason. That’s a leftist’s dream.

It’s the Trump administration. Come on we wouldn’t lose personal freedoms under his watch would we? This is your guy. What are you afraid of?

I did read it. Apparently you only read part of it. I don’t think your article supports your thread title as much as you think it does.

How you going to control the Indianapolis ghetto, Doctor?

We need to get to the point that we have a system in place to be able to identify someone that is infected, isolate them and then do contact tracing. We need to buy the time to get to this point by slowing the spread by all means available. That is how we will control the spread until ultimately there is a vaccine.

Where is the Christian compassion for his fellow man gone?! What is wrong with the people who are putting money above human lives? How can these not be compared to reprobates! It is “almost” unbelievable to me that supposed Christians would not only sin by disobeying their government but would be so concerned that may have to suffer economically a bit and therefore would hold the value of life as expendable for their comfort.

They base this reasoning on selfish paranoia over losing their freedom even though we have a leader like Trump who is leaving the lockdown decisions to local governors. Their paranoia is being fueled by conspiracy theorists who can't get past their political biases even if means the death of millions! They ignore the advice of our leading experts. This is insanity! I am fast running out of tolerance for those who might jeopardize others by promoting this type of disobedience at this important time!

...the gov of virginia chose June 10 to stay at home.
That wack job governor in Virginia will be shown his place soon enough when the urgency to stay safe at home to achieve our goals is over. I have no fear of dealing with those things and straightening it out when the time comes BUT now is not that time.

So no one can control the Indianapolis ghettos except the national guard.
That would be a shame for our government to have to control these people that have no regard for the welfare of others. But those people would not get my support for their careless actions at this time. I would be ready to take up arms myself against such people. Like I've said, the people need to start shouting this kind of behavior down.

Since 80% recover without needing to go to the hospital, this means tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands, then millions, then 10's of millions then 100's of millions will recover from this virus. Which is why the epidemic peters out on its own. Typically pandemics last 2 or 3 months, after which everyone who can be infected got infected and the recovered people offer herd immunity to the rest. The virus just can not spread anymore. And if it does not mutate the virus never comes back. Spanish flu mutated 3 or 4 times, the third time to harmless flu then was nothing.

People who are ill or frail should stay home. The economy will not snap back--there is no pent-up demand. There will be a fire sale of unused buildings. The stock market is back to the Obama slump. The government is not serious about fiscal responsibility.

No one knows who to trust on the science issue. Some say that 2 million Americans will die, others a quarter of a million, and some way less than that. I think that everyone agrees that we are going into a recession because of the economic damage.

As T.S. Eliot said, April is the cruellest month of the year.

It is clear who needs to shut up and get educated and it isn't me. Your peddling the same ignorant bull.... in several threads now. Just can't get enough of your agenda to unnecessarily spread this disease while basing your "unconventional wisdom" on quacks and crackpots rather than our expert authorities that refute your ignorance!

So when are you going follow your advice, go to the local respiratory ward to get covid19 as soon as possible and get to helping the economy as soon as possible?

That would not be my recommendation because even in the 20-44 age group in that CDC study of US patients I told you about, around 14-20% needed hospitalization and 2-4% needed ICU. Sure almost none of them died so they can get back to work now, right? You could help out too and all it would take is an illness that you will likely recover from because it is “just the flu”, right?
