Though I'm drawing a somewhat reasonable conclusion based on some things we've seen and heard, my theory is really nothing more than wild speculation. But, if I'm right, I'm taking full credit for my prescient ability to predict things.

I hope he doesn't go through withdrawal pains over the next 5 months waiting for it to start up again!

BTW, an enjoyable, though fan-wanky episode (A Good Man Goes to War) once again full of questionable plot points and scant resolutions to our questions.

I think we got resolved about 50% of our questions. And I didn't expect the ending.

The twist at the end was one of the possible identities of River Song. They kept insisting on calling the baby by Amy's last name. After the second time I got the connection between River Song and Melody Pond (and could scarcely believe Moffatt would be so obvious.)

I didn't expect the Tardis language translator to work considering THE TARDIS WASN'T EVEN ON DEMON'S RUN ANYMORE.

All suspense concerning the fate of the baby is pretty much shot considering we know that the Doctor will find Melody--after all River Song is an adult. Unless Moffatt decides to reset the universe yet again with some timey-wimey deus ex machina device.

BTW, I'd like to know how Rory single-handedly infiltrated the Cybermen's HQ.

It would have been better if River's parting shot to the Dr had been along the lines of "you'd better find me or we'll never have met", thus preserving the threat to the infant River/ Melody.

I didn't like the split season when it was announced. Now this...

SO. Farewell then Doctor Who, which has now disappeared for the summer, with the remaining six episodes from this year’s series due to be screened in the autumn. Farewell too, to executive producer Piers Wenger, who is leaving the BBC for a job at Film4. Could the two things be related?

News of Wenger’s intended departure followed the curious announcement the previous month that he was stepping down as head of drama at BBC Wales to work as a “creative leader” instead.

    Commercial disaster
The decision to split the current series in two, meanwhile, was taken last year when it became apparent that both budgets and schedules on Doctor Who were running so far out of control it would be impossible to complete a 13-part series in time for a spring transmission.

Now, however, there are fears that the second tranche of episodes may not even be completed in time for BBC Worldwide to release a DVD box set of the series in time for the Christmas market, which would be a commercial disaster.

    [..]

This, however, was far from the end of the bad news.

Programme chiefs in London were horrified to learn recently that BBC Wales is proposing not to make a full series of Doctor Who in 2012, but instead to put the programme on hiatus and merely bash out four “specials” as it did in 2009. This will leave an enormous hole in the BBC1 Saturday night schedule and a bigger one in the profits of BBC Worldwide, and will mean the corporation will be paying lead actor Matt Smith to spend most of the rest of this year doing nothing.

Soon after the Eye was published on Tuesday, the BBC confirmed that there will NOT be a full series of Doctor Who broadcast during 2012 but only “a good chunk” of episodes.

pssst... the viewcount is so high because this thread has been open for a very long time.

Don't believe everything you read. Moffat has been quoted as saying that the split season is due to narrative reasons.

    Here's a link to read.

It doesn't appear we have an answer to the question of how many episodes will air in 2012.

This isn't the first time that the sky has been falling in regards to Doctor Who.

    Finally, somebody points this out.

Maybe, but to do that suggests that the audience doesn't understand the threat. No need to beat us over the head with it.

The connection between River and Amy was so obvious that you posted this 2 months ago.

Yep, that Moffat was soooo obvious.

Sheesh, lighten up! I was speculating River Song might be Omega before this season had even started. There was no character named Melody Pond until last week's episode in which to compare that name to River Song.

Maybe Moffatt can introduce a new character named "Lake Tune" or "Creek Hymn" in subsequent episodes.

Lighten up? I'm the one laughing about it.

You're the one who criticizes Moffat unfairly.

If Moffat had been dumb enough to tell us the name of Amy's baby before last week's episode, then you would have a valid complaint about obviousness.

It's little wonder that River was so taken by the Doctor since he knew her from birth. It also explains what she meant by saying she was a complicated space/time event in Time of the Angels. We'll see how it plays out and whether she's still the one in the spacesuit in The Impossible Astronaut.

If she is the girl in the spacesuit it would explain why River missed when shooting at her at the beginning of Impossible Astronaut.

Just my (unasked for) two cents...remember, the girl said in the alley that she was dying, but that she could fix it. Not being a true Time Lord, the regeneration may do strange things to her memory...which could be used to explain River's reactions to the girl in the space suit, not remembering the happenings with the Silents, etc. i.e., she didn't remember being the person she was shooting at; and the suit protected the individual inside.

What will be harder to explain, is the Doctor being killed by River *especially* if they change actors, and therefore have the Doctor regenerate....

577 posts about a British television programme, Dr. Who! Amazing! But it's even more amazing, because this thread is about the so-called new Dr. Who, and looking at the OP, I see that means "from when Christopher Ecclestone took over". So it doesn't cover the years when the Doctor was played by: William Hartnell (1963-1966), Patrick Troughton (1966-1969), Jon Pertwee (1970-1974), Tom Baker (1974-1981), Peter Davison (1981-1984), Colin Baker (1984-1986), Sylvester McCoy (1987-1996), or Paul McGann (1996).

I forgot about "Silence of the Library," where River Song dies...so either I'm completely off the mark, or there's going to have to be an explanation of how River survived that episode....

#1, we do have posts about Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee and others. #2, we didn't have a Baptistboard around back when "Classic" Who was on.

In case anybody's missed it, August 27th is when the 2nd half of the season resumes.
