Is this against the law?

I had a interview at a manufacturing plant yesterday. Just about everyone I saw was hispanic, and even the employer told me this during the interview and plant tour. They also said that all shift leaders are hispanic. I am white and would be one of the only ones. I am working hard at trying to find a job and I do not think its fair or right if I get turned down because I am not hispanic. There are plenty of talented white folks looking for work. Employers that cater to hispanics and discriminate against whites are in the wrong. I did apply for the warehouse lead position, but got turned down, and the person I was speaking with yesterday himself said that all leaders are hispanic.

It is against the law to discriminate against anyone for race religion, gender or age. However getting anyone to act on this in the case of a non minority would be slim.
This is happening in Texas big time with much of construction with hiring mostly Mexicans. In fact in Texas they have crew bosses that make the Mexican’s pay them (kick back) part of their pay to get and hold their weekly jobs sometimes as much as 70 dollars a week. This is going to happen in all the states. This is why we need someone who will enforce the laws and deport these illegals. You can try the EEOC and file a complaint.

If I owned a business, and you applied for a job, I would hire you or not.

But it would be my choice, not a matter of law.

If I own a business I have the right to have anybody I want to work for me, and if you dont fit the bill, then go elsewhere.

BUT!! Is this happening in south carolina or arkansas?

Did you move in with that woman?

Maybe you could go open air preach in front of their building and call out their racism?

Or, possibly, you could just man up and look for work elsewhere?

Yeah its a tough one here. So much is done and no one acts on them which is the problem. Many employers will not accommodate workers on sundays, and cant even prove an undue hardship. I went to a job fair and the temp agency said outloud that if we put in our assessment that we cannot work any shift, any hour, or anyday, we would automatically be disqualified for the position. I met with them and they liked my credentials, experience, and work ethics. However I did take the assessment and indicated that I could work anyday but Sunday, and I have yet to get a call back.

Imagine that...they told you that if you weren't willing to work any day of the week they wouldn't hire you....and you weren't hired when you said you wouldn't work on Sunday.

Telling employees upfront, before they are hired, that they would need to be available to work any day of the week is not religious discrimination.

Man up, and stop whining.

In right-to-work states many things are done that are not done in other states.

You can go to the labor board in your city or state to find out.

Wah Wah Wah....I hate unions. they had a place 100 years ago , but today they are just legal stealing.

If I agree to work for you for $1 per hour, it is nobodies business but ours.

Unions are driving our industry to China....dont you get that?

One thing I did today was I trimmed my resume a little and only listed what they want to see. I was sending out a overqualified resume that listed 2 college degrees.

Since the great majority of the jobs in this area are industrial I definitely am overqualified applying for these jobs. I had a few employers and staffing agencies make little remarks here and there in interviews. In this case it was best to use my own judgment rather than relying on some career coach, career book, or person on the internet whom has no clue.

Well, just let me say that you are overly intelligent for this forum

So you are in favor child labor? I get paid very well and it allows me to help poor people and do more ministry because I can provide for my family and have more time. Yoou could work for one dollar per hour in this country if you would like. There are places that would allow you to do that. You could volunteer your time year after year. The main reason why a company will not let you work for less than minimum wage is because their insurance will not cover you. If they let you work even for free they are open to law suits by the person who is working. That is the reason why insurance companies advise churches against hiring or letting people do work for help who are not employees.

Do you know the history behind unions? Why would most workers want to be a part of unions if they felt they were being paid well. I managed the branch of a company that was the largest company in America in its field. We paid the employees 16% more than they could make anywhere else and did business honestly. The only people who wanted a union to come in was an employee who was a jerk. The issues with unions goes both ways. There are both employers and employees who will abuse the system if they can. Years ago I was never in favor of unions until I worked for a school district in which the school board gave the administrators an 8% pay increase in one year and the teachers had not received a pay increase in 3 years. In fact they were told by the superintendent that they may have to receive a 1/2 cut the following year. When the teachers got tired they went on strike. When the teachers went on strike the community got involved in a big way. After three weeks things went to arbitration and the teachers were awarded 18% increase. The school board agree to provide the superintendent with a car and pay for everything needed to get a doctorate. The union was good because it put the control of the school back into the hands of the people. Until that time most of the people did not know anything about what was going on. It was basically legalized stealing by the school board and giving benefits to the superintendent that not one other teacher or administrator had.

Unions are driving our industry to China....don't you get that?
What business are you in? Never once had China ever competed with the businesses I started or managed. It was the insurance companies and their greed for 3 times the cost of living in profit.

Investigate the Caterpillar Company and compare that to any machinery in the world in terms of quality and lifetime costs.

My Camry and Tundra are the cheapest vehicles I have ever owned and they did not come from China. Do you know where the 8000 and 9000 series John Deere tractors are made and who imports them?

Do you have any idea how much a $100 swimsuit costs to make in America, Canada and China?

Have you ever looked at the homes around you and compared them to the houses last century at this time?

Ultimately greed and profit drives companies to China. Would you be willing to work in India under their safety laws? Look up Bhopal.

Do you know that in recent years the insurance agency's profits have exceeded the cost of living by three times?

Do you have a clue what a state labor board does and what it has to do with unions?

Years ago a lady who was a student at the time told me that her employer was not paying her for all the hours she was working. I told her to keep track of her hours each day and then file the case with the state labor board. She did and the employer was fined and she was paid.

I have been an employer and made more money as an employer than I ever did as an employee. There have been times when the customer had to wait one year for my services.

I have been bothered in the past by some employees but it never got anywhere because every time my employees had spoken highly of me. Years ago there was about 40 employees under my supervision. After I terminated one of them he decided that he would file a case and a man from the state came to interview every employee under me at the time. The man told me that after hearing what every employee said that I had done a good job and the employees spoke well of me.

In one of the business I was in we figured that about 85 of the vendors cheated their customers regularly. I am confident that if I were to cheat you in that business you would never know. even professional people know little about the business. How does it make you feel to know that most likely you have been cheated and do not even know it. That has everything to do with the ethics of the company and has nothing to do with unions. The company I worked for sought to get laws passed which established standards in the industry. The government agreed and now we have laws governing that industry. Cheating had been going on for about 50 years in that industry. The public and end users did not have a clue.

Are you really serious? The fact is that sweatshops are all over the world and often under dangerous conditions. Did you look up Bhopal?
