For some reason my current girl-friend does not like or gravitate towards John MacArthur's books. She loves Jerry Bridges & David Jeremiah (two excellent authors). Perhaps its the style of writing, the lack of as much application, or the Lordship of Christ theme that turns her off.

She comes from a IFB background and no question the Lordship doctrine is not emphasized among Dispensationalist churches. Bridges & Jeremiah do not appear to hold to the degree of Lordship that MacArthur preaches. The good thing about her is that she does strive towards holiness and separation, and unlike the last one, with her we both are walking in wisdom, and will not be alone in a house or room together, which is walking in wisdom so that the flesh does not jump out and the devil does not use it to lead me into sin.

I have to ask... what does it matter that she does or doesn't like Johnny Mac's books? And, i guess this will sound unkind, what does the current state of your love life have to do with a study of Baptist theology?

Nothing. It just is a round about way of bragging to all of us that someone of the female persuasion is willing to hang out with him, and to brag about their holiness.

You did not read my post. I was curious as to the reason. But I guess its all skeptical.

You just said that "for some reason... " she doesn't like JM. Instead of asking us, why don't you ask her and then let us know... I am sure we'll all be waiting breathlessly. :sleeping_2: :tongue3:

1. Ask her why

2. JM can seem arrogant to some people. I'm not saying he is necessarily more arrogant than the rest of us, but he can sometimes come off that way.

Congratulations on finding a good Christian girlfriend. Now don't blow it by telling her what she should and should not like.

Let me clue you in to something that is important in relationships. It's called "communication". You don't know the reason? ASK HER!! For heaven's sake, if I was curious as to something with my husband and didn't ask him, I'd be a terrible "one flesh" with him. If we didn't communicate, our marriage would be toast. Then again, I can say the same with my kids. And my friends.

So you don't know - ask. It's really quite simple.

YES!!!! :thumbs::applause:

Listen evangelist, I know you get joy out of letting us know how your love life is progressing. Frankly, I don't care much to hear about folks personal stuff in a debate forum, but you have the right to post and can certainly do so.

I'm a pastor and deal with young couples a lot, some married, some considering...when it comes to stuff like this that you keep posting (and only for dating couples) I tell them they need to figure out why this is an issue and either get over it or move on. My wife grew up Church and Christ and then went to a Pentecostal church when she was a teen. She spoke in tongues then but doesn't now. She believes someone can walk away from their salvation but wil never get it back. She even believes that the miraculous gifts have some efficacy in ministry today. I could keep going on, but my point is this: I don't care, I don't love her or not because of her theology.

While we both share a deep commitment to each other and to Christ, we don't let incidental stuff get in our way. I didn't marry her because she could enumerate the finer points of the history of Azuza Street. Theology is important but it isn't everything.

If you're not careful you very well might lose a perfect match because you couldn't get yourself out of the way.

She would not answer as she does not like to offend. I notice she does not like the Way of the Master tracts. When doing evangelism she refused to pass any of them. She would not specify as to why she did not want to pass theirs out.

Good thing I am not a WOTM only type as I also use other tract ministries. She loves Chick Tracts.

McArthur is a Calvinist. I don't care for him either.

Most if not all of the English translators of the pre-1611 English Bibles were Calvinists.

The majority of the Church of England translators of the KJV were Calvinists.

The editor of the main edition of the Greek text used by the KJV translators was Theodore Beza, a very strong Calvinist.

Do you actually dislike or not care for everything associated with Calvinism?

Bingo! We have a winner!

I daresay, I dislike Calvinism as much as you dislike KJVO. Two doctrines that both cause division.

As was noted, the KJV is associated with Calvinism, and I didn't think that you disliked or cared nothing for it.

In his book Calvinistic Paths Retraced that is critical of Calvinism, Samuel Fisk pointed out the influence of Calvinism on some renderings in the KJV.
One of Fisk's topic headings was "questionable concepts carried over in the King James Version" (p. 74) where he asserts that pro-Calvinistic renderings are found in the KJV.
