Listen, words such as "d", "s", "h", etc. aren't cuss words, biblically speaking, imo. That being said, these words have a stigma attached to them, that isn't very nice. These words NEVER shed any light whatsoever, but rather, darkness, in that you can't have people gloryifying your Father which is in heaven, by saying these words....iow, they tend to be a hinderance to your, or anyone's witness. When a child says these words, they are corrected immediately, correct? If it's wrong for a child to say them, then it should be the same for a child of God, no?

Again, if a child gets a mouthful of soap for saying certain words, then how is it acceptable for a professing CHRISTian to use them?

It's akin to drinking alcohol. Is it a sin to have a drink? I guess not? Is it prudent? No. Why? You shed no LIGHT.......much like saying these cuss words. It sheds NO LIGHT.

 

Maybe in your house, you have created the stigma but in my house we dont decieve children & act hypocritical.

They may be perceived as being more uncomfortable than most with sexuality or nudity. Google the rest if you wish a complete definition.

In my family, we are definitely not prudes.....nor are we holier than thou nor capricious. None of us respect, obey and admire that type of individual that legislates standards they feel we all ought to live by, therefore we have little regard for stringent opinions considering your thoughts of morality on both proper language & alcoholic consumption. Perhaps you should have lived in the times of the puritans or in Geneva when John Calvin sent a team of pastors out to test the piety of the flock. You may have even flourished extremely well there.

 

Find a preacher who stands behind the pulpit drinking a Bud Light, cussing like a sailor, and see how many true converts he garners. Sure, the lost would love a pastor who snubs up his nose at society and what it thinks. We are to be seperate from the world. To chasten a child for cussing, and at the same time condoning it for adults is hypocritical. Listen, if someone wants to spew these vile words out their mouth at a "breakneck pace", by all means, do so. I just have a problem with CHRISTians saying these words because, one, it could offend a fellow believer, and second, it sheds no LIGHT.

 

I will admit, that although I do not drink or curse (anymore) that the (and we have been through this many times) prude game played by many Baptist churches about drinking, dancing, gambling, TV and movies while the gossip runs rampant and fat pigs stuff their guts at pot lucks makes one want to throw up.

On another note, had I lived back in the 1500s, and Calvin and his merry men came to my church, they would have found themselves stripped naked and tarred and feathered running down the street.

 

No, I would not advise a pastor to drink, smoke and cuss while giving a sermon, but then again, many of them stand six feet behind a pulpit because their stomaches will not allow them to get any closer. I do think a pastor, deacon, or elder, whatever, should treat drinking, smoking, gambling and other vices as Scripture says, not as some long dead temperence minded nutcase thought is should be. That pastor should also make members accountable for gossip and gluttony, just like anything else addressed in Scripture. If the clowns who set up these warped rules rewrote the Bible, it would be at odds with Scripture.

Growing up, in my parents house, cursing would result ones mouth being washed out, not with soap, but tobasco sauce. It was not tolerated in my house either. Between those tow houses existing, I was in the Navy. My language became so horrible, that the words became regular adjectives that I did not give a second thought to. If it had not been for the Lord, I would have never been able to clean up my act before I got married and had a family. That is why I am so sensitive to this subject.

On a humorous note, when my son was about six, we were on a trip. As usual, he and his sister were fighting in the back seat. I do not even recall the word, but he called her a word that we told him would result in the soap routine if he said it again. It was midday. Sure enough, he said it again, and he was promptly informed of the coming event when we stopped for the night. Well, about five, we stopped. I had forgotten all about it. Once in the motel, here comes my son out of the bathroom. He had unwrapped the soap and said, "Dad, did you forget something?" I was floored, and felt bad because he had been so honest. I went ahead and washed his mouth out, but sort of a quick version.

 

On adverage I don't like pastors as I consider them hypocrates. But it would be refreshing to find a man who does not hold himself up as holier then thou and would actually have a beer. with you...in fact, I really don't trust any man (unless he has a known drinking problem) who doesn't.

 

I agree with you that a lot of people, when push comes to shove, will let us all down. You know that there are wolves amongst the flock, whose job it is to scatter. As for drinking, I have no desire for the stuff anymore myself. I never really liked the taste of it when I drank it, just the effects of it.

Ah but God has given it to us to manage as we see fit...unless you have a drinking problem. However your selection of Bud Lite doesn't bode well for any beer selection. Id suggest buying something at a $6.00 a pack range...put it in a glass and drink slowly...never swill it down.:love2:

 

Should Christians Cuss?

Absolutely not! Not in any conversation even if there is only one other person in the room.

And I am not saying this because of "tradition". The Bible clearly tells us we shouldn't cuss.

Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

 

Because there must be a gathering place for the latest gossip.

 

LOL....my MIL & FIL retire & move from New Jersey to Florida. She raised her kids Dutch Reformed (but not legalistic). On her latest visit up North I asked her whats going on down south regarding church these days. Her response was "oh yea, there is a church on every block & the Baptists are big. To compete with one another they do stuff like offering lunches & dinners & other stuff to draw them in. Its smart Steve, ya gotta give the people what they want & they will come." LOL---needless to say she wont go cause she dont like being manipulated & she dont like the clicks that gossip.

Now to be fair, I was on the phone with a pastor who has taken over for good ole Al Martin's Reformed Baptist (God he would correct me if I called it Reformed/ rather a Particular Baptist) church in Montville NJ. One his biggest selling points is we now have weekly lunches & dinners on Sundays. (rolls Eyes).....Hint Hint....plant a church within a half hour from my home so I dont have to drive an hour to your diner/Church, preach the gospel & do outreaches into my local community.....I am not interested in having lunch at your place....rather have it at home with my wife & kids (where I can have a beer with my meal). Other than that, go chase yourself.

After recieving my new birth all desire for beer and the harder stuff disapeared.

Same with the reefer and all the other dope we enjoyed taking.

Of course I didnt become Mr perfect. None of us are perfect, even after salvation.

 

So let me get this straight.

You think the only reason anyone would ever use "cuss" words is because he is not intelligent enough to find synonyms not considering cuss words?

Define "filthy communication."

That is your first error. You don't know what it is.

Secondly, put the verse in context. It is a far greater sin to quote a verse and use it out of context than it is to say the 'd word'.
