No, its a sincere question. I don't know why else your fighting on this thread as you used to hold the same view as those you are fighting with.

If you cant "persuade" them, call them names.

Which is received by faith. No matter how you slice it, the reason a Gospel knowledge cannot be received is a weak faith. You can teach all you want, a weak faith cannot receive certain things. In other words, he doubts.

Here's what I think has happened.

I got frustrated with what I perceived to be a flip-flop on your part and a little miffed at what I perceived to be an insulting and attacking remark from you, and I returned in kind (which I should not do).

Now you have developed some weird conspiracy theory where I am some kind of mind controlling or brainwashing Jim Jones or something.

Do you need people who fight you to be evil?

Are you not able to "come to blows" with good people or do you need for anyone who ever resists you to be some kind of mental case or brainwasher or some other such nonsense?

I'll close with this. I come from a different world than you. Down here, fist fights among friends are relatively common.

Down here we kind of think part of being a man is being able to be friends with somebody you throw knucks with every once in a while. Now you don't have to agree with that. And truth be told, the older we get the less we do that.

But my closest friends, friends I would die for- we get into shouting matches once a month or more. We debate. We call each other names. We say things like, "Hey MORON!! If you would shut up and listen you would learn something!!" And we end up laughing and maintaining a great deal of respect for each other.

I have two friends, both of them members on this board, who I have been friends with for 15 years and we are able to fight all of the time.

You don't have to go to the extremes we go to, but you ought to be able to be confronted and to enter into hot conflict with your friends without painting therm out to Jim Jones.

Okay. I think we need to back up and define "faith."

You think knowledge comes by faith.

I think faith comes by the word of God (the knowledge of it).

The word "faith" in the Greek is pistuo which means "to be fully PERSUADED."

You become persuaded of things by having knowledge of those things imparted to you.

Absolutely a false assumption on your part Rick. However there are those who do manipulate & attempt to control people. That point I will clarify.

So is that the hallmark of Christian behavior? And as a Pastor, do you participate?

    I don't pastor my friends.

I am a husband to my wife, a father to my children, a friend to my friends and a pastor to my parishioners.

I don't sleep with, spank or fight with my parishioners.

Conflating relationships is what causes EIGHTY PERCENT of seminary graduates to drop out of ministry.

I am a man. I don't try to be a pastor to my friends. I don't try to be a pastor to my wife.

I will punch slave4christ in the face. He would punch me in the face. We are friends. He does not try to be my pastor and I do not try to be his.

Don't try to force pastors to conflate pastoring with all of their relationships.

Yes you are arguing for moderation.
But moderation does not extend to smoking but all of society and medicine realizes the harmful effects of smoking on one's body, as already posted--various cancers, second-hand smoke to others, the addiction problems associated with it, etc. There is nothing good about tobacco! It cannot be justified, even in moderation.

You cannot argue for moderation in marijuana, or for that fact in any so-called "recreational drug." The argument for moderation fails.
Moderation fails because moderation is relative. What is "moderation?" Two beers, half a dozen? A full dozen? A dozen people will define moderation in a dozen different ways, and yet the Bible speaks in absolutes.

It is the public school system that teaches ungodly principles such as:
--There are no absolutes. (I like that one for it is absolutely stated).
--Everything is relative. That is what you seem to be saying. But it is not true.

Proverbs teaches principles that are true. To disregard them brings failure in life.
Besides that, I used more than just Proverbs to make my point.

Let your moderation be known unto all men. Phil. 4:5 (KJV)

Only a fundamentalist would quote society which he usually thinks worships Satan to suit him and then state something with an exclamation point as if yelling it makes it so.

    Society is what you've got?

    Really?

Society also believe that we evolved from monkeys. Do you go with society on that one?

Furthermore, I shared with you a quote FROM A SURGEON GENERAL REPORT
that stated that pipe smokers live as long as everybody else and those who do not inhale (which is most) actually live longer.

I hope I don't have to explain to you why most pipe smokers do not inhale the smoke into their lungs.
You are speaking like you know so much about it- I hope I do not have to explain this to you.

I hate the pot culture. I despise the hippy culture. I am a big, white, southern, dyed in the wool republican with short hair and an NRA membership card in my wallet. I want Rick Perry to be the next president or Mike Huckabee.

I prefer the King James Bible to all other versions. I despise most contemporary Christian music. I hate drunkenness with every fiber of my being.

BUT... I can argue for moderation because it is what the WORD OF GOD teaches, DHK.

You have GOT to learn to let the word of God dictate your beliefs rather than your culture dictating them.

I believe in absolutes, black and white, good and evil, right and wrong, heaven and hell, truth and lies...

But one of the absolute truths taught in scripture is that NOTHING IS UNCLEAN IN ITSELF. Its how you use it.

Yes, they do it all of the time.

Probably not in New Jersey. There are a lot of things that men do elsewhere that they don't do in New Jersey. In New Jersey they just shoot each other don't they?

Where I am from men can settle a dispute in the back yard, get up, nurse their minor bumps and walk back into the house laughing with their arms around each other.
