Creepy! The blasphemy of Mary on the Mercy Seat sitting between the cherubim. We cannot even make this evil up. The RCC volunteers it.

People just don't understand that devout Catholics aren't phased by such shameless wickedness. They are so used to it....and now love it.

Could any of us be shocked if the RC pope one day declares:

"In the beginning was the Mother, and the Mother was with God, and the Mother was God.....this is a great mystery."

Then foolish Catholics would flood internet discussion forums proudly declaring that this has always been the teaching of the Apostles and passed on in Sacred Tradition...just in acorn form.

The evil from the RCC will be never ending...until the Lord puts and stop to it.

Mary is not sitting on the Mercy Seat. She is not sitting at all. She is standing behind the arc with her hands outstretched over the Mercy Seat.

Why do you find the mother of our Lord to be so profane? Would you be pleased if someone profaned your mother?

This is the hundredth time I've seen this picture on the this website and its getting tiring. First of all this picture has been explained as being symbolic. I will provide one final explanation for this picture.

This image is called a monstrance. A Monstrance is a container for the Eucharist. Look at Mary above the ark of the covenant behind the Mercy seat. To people who don't understand Catholic thinking they thing Mary is in the Mercy Seat which belongs to God when in fact this image Mary is behind the Mercy seat. Now do you see that circle in front of Mary? That is where the Eucharist goes. Now you may disagree with Catholics regarding the Eucharist which is fine however Catholics believe the Eucharist is the very body and blood and presence of Jesus Christ as described in John 6, Luke 22: 19-20, and Matthew 26. Therefore it is Jesus himself who is placed at the front and on the Mercy Seat. Mary is imaged because she was the means by which he became incarnate through the power of the Holy Spirit. Her arms are therefore presenting Christ to the viewer. That is the actual meaning of that image. All your speculation and misconstruing the image is wrong.

But don't you think to the average unknowledgeable viewer, even catholics who do not study as you do these things, it looks as though Mary is being portrayed as having some kind of divine power in the redemption of mankind?

I can see how one unfamiliar with Catholic faith can misconstrue the meaning. As far as Catholics who may misconstrue it; shame on them. They have a responsibility to know their faith and to live accordingly. In my way of thinking that would be like a Baptist church member who didn't read their bible daily or study it regularly while committing themselves in daily prayer. In both categories (Catholic and Baptist)I would encourage those type of people to take a serious inventory of their spiritual lives.

Amen! Plenty of pew warmers in all churches, sadly.

Anyway you all know that this is all crape don't you?!? Idol workshop pure and simple. What I find amazing & disconcerting is that both Z & TS appear to defend it...God does not require ....and indeed sanction this kind of workshop!

I think the point was there are a lot of ignorant believers sitting in all churches, they just don't care to learn or investigate what things mean.

Real believers are not ignorant. Those given over to strong delusion are ignorant--they are also lost. See the account of Jesus and a master of religion, Nicodemus. See also: Ephesians 2:8-10.

The religiously ignorant think they are saved by their good works. This has been the delusion since Cain offered veggies instead of innocent blood.

The world is overfilled with religion--most of it false.

The remonstrance is another example of modern pagan idolatry. Now what?

    Jesus paid it all.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

    Nothing new here.

The Roman Catholic cult has been apostate for centuries.

How ANYONE can defend it is beyond me.

Well, I've been a believer for 37 years and I'm still learning everyday. There are many things I discover I had been ignorant of. I just recently learned that the tithe is not for the NT church, I had always been told it was and didn't question it or study the issue, that is being ignorant of something. Doesn't make me lost.

Surely that is not a misericordiae (mercy seat) but rather the Ark of the Covenant?

.....and no I do not subscribe to that either.....but then I am a bit conservative:thumbsup:

Surely the image is one of Mary being the theotokos? Ie: the Ark of the Covenant is an antetype for Mary in that, just as it bore the presence of God, so did Mary in her pregnancy. Even Luther IIRC didn't have an issue with that...

Do you know the difference between imagery and idol worship? Imagery is not the same as idol worship. Just because imagery may contain religious themes does not make it idol worship. In fact, and this may come as a surprise to you, that idol worship does not necessarily have to have an image as its focus. We know from Exodus, Deuteronomy, and 1st Kings that imagery with religious themes was not only used by Israel but commanded by God to be made and displayed and these items made by human hands commanded to be made by God were often venerated and set apart for veneration by Israel. Idol worship is therefore not the same as imagery or even venerating imagery. The bible clearly defines idolatry and that is simply replacing God (and his role in our lives) with anything other than him. Thus you don't need a statue of Zeus to be idolatry (though it is). Rather, your job can make you idolatrous, accumulation of wealth can make you idolatrous, a girlfriend or spouse, a car, education, societal status, entertainment, tv, movies, or football just about anything can be idolatry. Even the worship of your pastor (think of Jim Jones), or more insidiously worshiping a Jesus we've recreated to behave more like ourselves. Certainly, images of Biblical personages, events, or even religious symbolism are not necessarily idolatry.

So, you are going to rely on a Hollywood actor from Scotland to be your authoritative source on religion and faith? Do you know listening to his discussion you took from youtube that he would classify you and your faith as brainwashing? You don't really provide a fair argument in that is like choosing a comment from Dawkins to comment about Catholicism when we know he would say the same about any Christian denomination.

Uh... the mercy seat is what the cover above the ark itself and between the wings of the seraphim which is where the Eucharist holder is; is called. Often where the presence of God would be above as describe in scriptures.
