I dunno. Beatin the Red Sox seems to be a trend, this year. I meant every word of "pull one out".

I did get the time wrong. I don't know why I checked wednesday's schedule.

They were talking about that on FoxSportsKansasCity last night. Did you know he's lost velocity off his fastball every years since 2010? It's now very hittable, as KC proved in the fifth last night. And yeah, you're probably right -- that's way too many pitches to throw consistently. I'm concerned Ned's doing the same thing to Shields, Vargas, and Guthrie. He seems pretty protective of Ventura and Duffy.

And by the way, ITL ---

The Royals owe you big time for posting this thread. Since you said:
... the Royals have gone 13-5 and have 14 home runs.

    Make that 14-5 and ...

First place in the AL Central!

Sorry, this is the latest in the season we've been in first since 1985, the year we won the Series.

Ooops! you're right. And to think I listened to Steve Physioc & Rex Hudler -- and believed them!

Actually, I looked again. They said it was the first time in first place after just 70 games since 1980 -- not 1985. Sheesh, boneheaded all the way for me today. I usually look up my own stats before posting. Won't forget to do that again ...

    What a game!

Royals have now won ten in a row, with today's 2-1 win over the Tigers, with what turned out to be "The One" or "#1 of the Top Ten" game-saving catch by Gordon -- how is it MLB fans are ignoring him in the All-Star outfield voting??? -- an efficient overpowering outing by Jeremy "JGuts" Guthrie, and another great closing performance by Holland.

How about Infante muscling up against his old team with two home runs in this four-game series?

Sawx go back-2-back, walk-off style with Ortiz and Napoli, beating the Twins 2-1 in 10.

Yep, Sox pulled out another one. This is after Twins' Chris Parmalee homered in the top of the 10th to make it 1-0. Gardenhire let a righty pitch to Ortiz, big mistake.

Last year Ortiz hit .339 vs. righthanders. This season? .256. He's actually better in 2014 against lefties, hitting .260.

Any way you look at it, he's in a hole this season, hitting only .246 through today's game. Maybe he knew what he was doing signing a "security contract" that gave him a job through next season, with Red Sox options through 2018.

But I still wouldn't want to see him come to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with RISP. In that situation, they can throw out the book.

Bartolo Colon Collects First Double of Career

Bartolo Colon, age 41, 5'10", 285 lbs., stroked the first double of his career today. He then scored when the next batter hit a double. He was immediately given oxygen and told to lie down. <=== [I made up that last sentence.]

The last time he scored a run was on August 9, 2002 when he was a member of a team that no longer exists, the Montreal Expos. The last time he got a hit was June 10, 2005 the year he won the Cy Young when he was with the Angels. It happened during an interleague game vs. the Mets.

 Sounds like when James Shields hit the first double of his career against St. Louis a couple weeks ago. He asked 1B coach Rusty Kuntz, when the coach came to get his batting gloves and shin guard, if he should steal third. Kuntz told him it took his whole career to get that far, why didn't he stick around for awhile?

After blowing an 8-0 lead in losing 14-9 to the Blue Jays, I am just about ready for us to blow this team up and start over!!!

Our bullpen has been atrocious, with Ondrusek and Hoover needing their walking papers. Bronxton and LeCure had been nails, but they're leaking oil now. And then Chapman gave up 5 runs in the ninth last night...or was it 4? Either way, he got the "L" hung on him.

John Lackey looked absolutely pathetic against the Mariners, and the Red Sox continue their plunge to the bottom.

It's not looking good for your team right now, but I get the sense that the Red Sox could flip a switch and get back into the race. My Rays? Well, they have a history of being really good in the 2nd half of the season and especially down the stretch, but I fear this is too much to overcome.

John Lackey has always been this way. His next start might be a two-hit shutout.....

Hey, the Mariners came in here and took three straight on the heels of our 15-of-20 surge. They can't be all that bad, even if they are third in the AL West. That's looking like the strongest division in either league this year.

The Nasty Boys. Arguably the best middle relief pitching staff ever. And Oakland hasn't even made it to the W.S. since.

    Congrats to KC.

TNID isn't looking so crazy, after all.

On July 25, 1930 the Philadelphia A's pull off a triple steal. Twice. In the same game.
