I had a good friend who had a near death experience many years ago. She was a very dedicated Christian. I see no reason to doubt the experience she told us about.

Yup. Not possible. Jesus said no. Some will still say yes, no matter.

"This is an evil generation, they seek a sign, and no sign shall be given it."

There is a difference between death and near death. What is described in the OP seems like dead, not near dead.

I am curious. Do you believe that He told him no because of his soul's state and location? I think of Lazarus and the small girl, both raised again by Christ. Thanks.

Ed. to add: ...and those raised when Christ was crucified.

Those could not be classified as "near death".

And Christ is not around to raise anyone, now. This goes back to the signs and wonders. Paul raised a guy from the dead, as I recall. I don't think that fits the O/P, either.

Also, when we truly encounter angels we are awake.

She had an operation and was in the recovery room, awake and then slipped away. She said the last thing to go seems to be hearing as she could not speak nor see any longer. She heard a doctor say, "Well, we lost this one."

She suddenly found herself in a beautiful meadow. There was a presence behind her. She said without having to turn around she knew it was Jesus. Ahead a relative who had died some years before was walking across the meadow to meet her.

The presence behind her said, "Do you want to stay or return."

She replied, "Well, Lord, I would like to stay here, but Floyd [her husband] and the children need me."

The next think she knew was pain and waking as doctors worked on her.

She lived many more years and said that after that experience she had absolutely no fear of death.

Paul was caught up into the third heaven. What was Paul's observation ? No words can describe what Paul heard. He heard unspeakable words. He had no idea what these words meant and it was not lawful for him to attempt to utter them, 11 Cor 12:4. So all these out of body experiences of seeing a light at the end of the tunnel or having a conversation with Jesus is pure hog wash.

    Yeah, here's quite a trip:

    monergism.com/topics/puritans/anne-dutton-1692-1765

    vol 3, p. 60 ff

"Another time I was under Illness of Body, and other trials. . . .I was brought, in a Moment, into the Bosom of GOD. . . .I saw myself wrap'd round with the Righteousness of GOD; and splendidly glorious, in the Eyes of flaming Purity, as I stood in this shining Dress! And from the transcendent Heights of this Glory-sun, I look'd down upon the perfect Righteousness of Adam in Innocence, and of the holy Angels in Heaven, and saw no Glory in these, in comparison with the super excelling Glory of Christ's Righteousness. . . .I beheld the Mercy of Jehovah, as a boundless Ocean, and myself in the midst of it; so that nothing could come at me but what came thro' a Sea of Mercy. No Afflictions, Temptations, or Trials, of what Kind soever, could touch me, but must come thro' this infinite everlasting Mercy, and by it be turn'd into Mercies to Me. I was indeed, cast into Mercy's Ocean, and delightfully div'd into its infinite Depths. And upon every new Discovery, I cry'd out, with the Apostle, Rom. xi.33. Oh the Depths! And in a Word. By this Hour's Communion with GOD, I thought I knew something what Heaven would be.: In the Morning, I said, with Jacob, This is none other but the House of God, and this is the Gate of Heaven, Gen. xxviii.17."

No one can question her experience....they may question her explanation, but not her experience.

Personally, we live in a "near-death" experience.

Heaven is for real... Started it... Book and Movie! Another thing there is no explanation for... I kind of blew my money and while we were on vacation picked up one called... My Time In Heaven, A true story of dying and coming back by Rev. Richard Sigmund. A minister claiming he was dead for 8 hours had a personal tour of heaven saw Jesus and was sent back by God to spread the word... Since his return he's brought sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, caused the lame to walk, and raised several people from the dead. Then wrote a book about it. Talk about an N.D.E!... Or should we believe the words of P.T. Barnum... (There is a sucker born every minute)... Truth or Hoax?

    Hello Rolf,

This passage is loaded with teaching.
1]The unsaved person does not ask for a second chance...he knows he is guilty and justly condemned.

2]He thinks they would be convinced by what they see, or the experience, but is told NO. if they do not believe the word that was already given they will never believe savingly.

26 and besides all these things, between us and you a great chasm is fixed, so that they who are willing to go over from hence unto you are not able, nor do they from thence to us pass through.

26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

    [/QUOTE]

They were raised up, but no mention of heaven or any influence directly written about....I believe these were just some of the signs that were used to establish the Apostles as ministers of the NT,word.

The word of God was the highlight, not the sign gift.

I believe in coming back from dying! Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment. Jesus said it...THAT settles it!

I've been aloud to go up the mountain top, and I've looked over, and mine eyes have seen the promised land. And all the people said AMEN. Mystics.

My dad had a near death experience while suffereing cardiac arrest. I know that before that experience, he was a non believer, and afterwards, he found his way yo a Baptist church and was saved and water baptised. He influenced my mom to follow Jesus too!

He was a different man after that, and never did he fear dying, because whatever it was he witnessed, it scared him, and he knew there was a hell as well as a heaven, and he chose to follow Jesus down the narrow path and into Heaven!
