    Check out this scenario :tongue3:

A wife might ask, "Does this dress make me look fat?"

That unanswerable question if she does in fact look fat in the dress.

Opt 1: Beat around the bush and don't answer the question directly. Tell her you love her and it doesn't matter what she looks like in that dress. Misdirection is deception. She gets the dress, looks fat in it.

Opt 2: Lie and say no. She gets the dress, looks fat in it. Everyone else thinks she looks fat in it too. Not a good option.

Opt 3: Don't beat around the bush, be honest and tell the truth. No Mr. Smith, Wesson, Louisville Slugger, Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee will protect you at this point. Be prepared to sleep on the couch. At least she doesn't get the dress.

I don't know about anyone else's wife, but my wife wants the truth and not some lovey-dovey "I only see you" blah, blah.

Fortunately for me, she’s never asked that question. :flower:

Hard to believe you said that but nonetheless I trust those "stories" where inspired by the Holy Spirit and principals can be gleaned from them.

So if you were one of those spies she was hiding you would have said this? I'm sure John of Japan would jumped out of the closet with his best Bruce Lee impersonation and said "AHH..HAYA HAYAHAYA!".

Of course the stories were inspired by the Holy Spirit, just as much as any other part of the Bible. But basic hermeneutics teaches that you do not create doctrine from the stories of the Bible. Furthermore, none of the Bible stories mentioned on this thread contain a statement that the lying done was righteous. The stories are simply told as is, then we are to apply Bible truth to them.

I have given many passages saying lying is wrong. Can you give me one single passage that says it is okay to lie? One single verse?

Don't know, I've never been in rehab.

Yes, Rahab lied. Did the Bible say she was right to do so?

"Is it EVER OK to lie? "

Parents lie to children all the time abt Santa, then undermine a bit of trust when they later have to acknowledge to the older child that Santa does not exist. We wink and it is a minor thing but still a lie.

Ananias and Sapphira lied to elevate themselves, but not at the plight or disadvantage of others…so that was OK...no harm no foul...right?

    I've been asked.

    Once.

I said, "Don't blame the dress."

    She doesn't ask anymore.

You were adding ,"Ananias and Sapphira lied to elevate themselves" is what you said. Webdog said nothing to ok that action...in fact he said the opposite.

What I was referring to was your quote of Webdog along with your reply:
My point is that his comment was only worth repeating if it were indeed true. I offered an example where two people lied and their lie did not seek to gain something for themselves at the plight and disadvantage of others. It did not end up OK for those two. That’s all.

Webdog and I have had our differences before but I agree with him on this issue.
