This is the beginning of a good plan. Security in depth. The 4 "D"s of physical security.

Detect. Early warning is your best defense. The easiest way is to have a lookout posted at a high window who can see them coming.

    Deter.
We have armed, uniformed, Sheriff's Deputies stationed outside our main entrance. Just seeing him there may deter those who intend harm and cause them to seek a softer target. Even non-uniformed security people will probably be noticed by an intruder and may cause him to go elsewhere.

    Delay.
This is where security in depth comes in. Have several layers of security to slow down the intruder. To get to our front door you have to climb about 25 steps. The outer doors are locked and are opened from the inside by "greeters" who are actually an additional line of defense. The doors from the foyer to the main auditorium are kept closed and latched (but not locked - fire codes). Then, just inside those doors are 6 ushers who are the next line of defense.

Defeat. I like the military concept of "Defeat in Detail." If the intruder is alone overcome him by weight of numbers. If there is more than one, divide and conquer. Take them down one at a time.

If it is necessary for the security team to discharge a firearm remember the "boarding house" rules of engagement. If there are three equally dangerous targets, "Nobody get's seconds until everybody has gotten firsts." :)

At our fellowship this would be the Back Row Baptists. Anything impeding prompt departure is going to be dealt with severely by this group...

Those in the front row are only going to get involved if the message gets interrupted.

    God bless.

    1. #35 does not say anything like that.
    2. You are citing a document that is 16 years old.
    3. 92. The homicide rate in the United States is much higher than that of the United Kingdom and the use of firearms in homicide is similarly very much higher, but it is wrong to assume that the same thing applies to all types of crime.

    Exactly.

Violent crime rates in England are roughly 5 times higher than in the US.

As with all statistics, it will depend upon your definition of violent crime. But it is all the more reason why I give thanks to God that it is very hard to obtain a gun in Britain.

I will just add that I have lived almost as long as you have and I have never for an instant felt the need or desire to own or carry a firearm. Guns are a non-issue in Britain; I doubt that you would find more than 5% of people who want a relaxation in gun control.

But as I say, you guys carry on. It's your country. It's one Vietnam every four or so years, but who cares?

And as I said Martin, millions have cared and have risked life, limb and family to get into this country illegally.
What other country has that attraction in spite of the 2nd amendment and our national crime rate?

Not to mention if it wasn't for those red-necked Americans and their guns, and knowledge of guns, Martin would be speaking German, not English. :)

Yep! That's the only sort of gun I want.
I'd sooner be a man with a joke gun than a joke man with a real gun.

But wouldn't you be a joke man with a joke gun?

I have an idea. If you do not want to carry a gun into a church.......then don't.
