Donald Trump's latest step toward tyranny

There's a name for a government that bars media outlets it views as unsympathetic from access to its workings.

It's not "democracy."

Just ask White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, as someone did in December, shortly before Spicer accepted his current post as President Donald Trump's proselytizer-in-chief.

During the campaign, Trump had revoked the credentials of reputable outlets media outlets at will, sometimes for weeks on end. Asked whether the White House would continue that practice, Spicer scoffed at the notion:

"Look, there's a big difference between a campaign where it is a private venue using private funds and a government entity," he said. "I think we have a respect for the press when it comes to the government. That is something you can't ban an entity from. Conservative, liberal or otherwise, that's what make a democracy a democracy versus a dictatorship."

It's been documented that Obama invited reporters from leftwing media for sit down chats numerous times. Where no conservatives were allowed. No problem with that Crabby?

Great line with nothing to back it up.

Look at history, the first thing a wanna-be dictator does is limit the press. The last thing a dictator wants is an open uncontrolled press.

I guess zero was one as well? Bush and Bill? 2013 story about Obama blocking press....

The administration has implemented an "Insider Threat Program" in all government departments to urge federal employees to monitor their colleagues for possible unauthorized information disclosures. Administration employees suspected of leaking classified information are given lie-detector tests and subject to reviews of their telephone and e-mail records, wrote Downie, who was assisted in reporting by Sara Rafsky.

The report is the latest in a series of portrayals by journalists and media critics of a president whose rigid public relations practices belie his earlier promises of change and open access to public information.

Does Donald Trump's administration bar access to all media that disagrees with it???

So far, he has opened the doors wider, allowing access to many different media types. ...that's the rub!

Those news sources that are complaining are doing so because they don't have the same access as they did under 0bama.
0bama wasn't exactly pristine in that regard.
It was 0bama who declared Fox News reported James Rosen, "Ememy of the State".
Trump called on opposition news sources during his last marathon press briefing, he bantered with them repeatedly.

First amendment rights allow a reporter to say what they will.
When certain news organizations repeatedly distort and promote a biased, agenda driven commentary, the President also has a first amendment right to complain.

It was intended to be a small informal gathering of a select group of journalists using the press pool function of reporting. At the last minute Spicer decided to invite more journalists but he couldn't ask too many more because the room was too small to accommodate everyone. The list of organisations excluded just happens to align with those that seem to report negatively on President Trump.

Looks to me like a set up and Spicer just pwned CNN (and others). Kind of refreshing, actually.

If it continues I may get concerned.

Probably so. And in Obama's case, he even told the invited journalists that they were not allowed to tell anyone the discussions even took place!
