    Here are some Bible verses which prove the Seven-Day-Adlibber doctrine of the annihilation of the souls of the wicked is false:

    Rev. 20:10 - "And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."

    Rev. 14:11 - And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

    We see from these verses that Satan & the souls of the wicked are NOT annihilated, but are to be kept in the lake of fire FOR EVER. This is a SCRIPTURAL TRUTH, not a scare tactic to get people into church! The SDA denial of this Scripture is in itself a huge sin!

    Now, our resident SDAer might post below this and say it's "emotionalism", but these SCRIPTURES speak for themselves!

    This is but one of several false doctrines the SDA unloads on its members. Beware of religious doctrines that are made to relieve the itching of some peoples' ears! They're alluring signs posted along the highway to hell!

    The Church was lost and without a shepherd for 1,800 years until the Great Prophet, Ellen G White came to rescue it. With secret knowledge that no one, not even the Apostles, knew, after she went into trances she came out with everything a person needs for life and godliness. No! No the Bible. Not the simple gospel of Christ. No. That's far too easy. She, in her great gift to mankind, gave us 30,000 pages of material that explain what God couldn't in 1,200.

    All of the people who thought that they were Christians prior to Ellen Whites writings were sadly mistaken. They didn't have the secret knowledge which is now in the hands of the faithful few - the SDA.

    Good thread on doctrine.

    Matthew 10:28 "Fear Him who is able to DESTROY BOTH body AND soul in fiery hell".

    So while the Lake of Fire does provide literal torment of literal fire and literal brimstone to literal lost souls in literal lake of fire -- that supernatural event will end with the "destruction of BOTH body AND soul".

    Even Satan himself will "be no more" -- will be reduced to ashes.

    Ezek 28
    “You had the seal of perfection,
    Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
    13 “You were in Eden, the garden of God;
    Every precious stone was your coveri
    ng:
    The ruby, the topaz and the diamond;
    The beryl, the onyx and the jasper;
    The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald;
    And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets,
    Was in you.
    On the day that you were created
    They were prepared.
    14 “You were the anointed cherub who covers,
    And I placed you there.
    You were on the holy mountain of God;
    You walked in the midst of the stones of fire.
    15 “You were blameless in your ways
    From the day you were created

    Until unrighteousness was found in you.
    16 “By the abundance of your trade
    You were internally filled with violence,
    And you sinned;
    Therefore I have cast you as profane
    From the mountain of God.
    And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub,

    From the midst of the stones of fire.
    17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty;
    You corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor.
    I cast you to the ground;
    I put you before kings,
    That they may see you.
    18 “By the multitude of your iniquities,
    In the unrighteousness of your trade
    You profaned your sanctuaries.
    Therefore I have brought fire from the midst of you;
    It has consumed you,
    And I have turned you to ashes on the earth
    In the eyes of all who see you.
    19 “All who know you among the peoples
    Are appalled at you;
    You have become terrified
    And you will cease to be forever.”’”

    Rev 20
    7 When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, 8 and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore. 9 And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

    Exek 18:4 "the soul that sin - it shall die"

    Ezek 28 - reduced to ashes

    Therefore I have brought fire from the midst of you;
    It has consumed you,
    And I have turned you to ashes on the earth
    In the eyes of all who see you.
    19 “All who know you among the peoples
    Are appalled at you;
    You have become terrified
    And you will cease to be forever.”’”

    factless Creative writing -- as if this is a great substitute for actually studying the bible if the intent is to falsely accuse others.

    How sad

    Yet how "instructive"

    Your profile page says you have "Baptist convictions", now tell me why do you believe this particular Christian thought process since it did not come into existence until the 17th century? We must then assume that in your case and according to you"the Church" was lost and without a shepherd for some 1600 years until John Smyth came on the scene with his supposed correct interpretation of things. Are you really any better than the followers of Ellen White whom you castigate regularly?

    Surely you jest. Do you actually consider a biblical explanation of baptism which differs from yours in the same league as the wild writings of Ellen White?

    Differences in matters of Christian practice and different gospels are infinitely different matters.

    Yes this is true and you yourself have rejected much of standard orthodox Christianity by following instead the wild musings of people like Wycliffe, Calvin, Smyth, or any number of other Christian leaders who likewise rejected the orthodox teachings of Christianity.

    And just like you, SDA adherents follow the template of "Sola Scriptura" with all of you amazingly coming up with different interpretations of the holy Writ and claiming that you have the truth. Ellen White or John Smyth, what difference does it really make?

    The following is the lead statement from the SDA website:

    "Seventh-day Adventists accept the Bible as the only source of our beliefs. We consider our movement to be the result of the Protestant conviction Sola Scriptura—the Bible as the only standard of faith and practice for Christians".

    Need I say more?

    I don't debate Roman Catholics (or men with pictures of cats as avatars, BTW) as there is no agreed upon common basis for debate. Thanks for your comment.

    Jesus Christ is our common denominator, we both worship Him as the one who saves - Emmanuel, God Incarnate upon this earth. The difference lies is how we worship, not who we worship.

    I wasn't arguing, just stating some facts. What's the matter, can't the "Grand Inquisitor" of everything SDA deal with them?

    Hi robycop3.

    Let me look at these with you.

    Where is satan and all of the wicked burning in the lake of fire in Revelation 20?

    Revelation 20:8 KJB - And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

    Revelation 20:9 KJB - And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

    Where will God create a New Heavens and New Earth?

    Scripture cannot be broken [John 10:35 KJB], I know you surely agree?

    What are "smoke" and "ashes" which is what the fire reduces the wicked to?

    Who is the "covering cherub" that was "perfect" in the day that they were "created" of Ezekiel 28:12-16 KJB?

    Ezekiel 28:18 KJB - Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

    Ezekiel 28:19 KJB - All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
    How does the Bible use the phrase "for ever and ever" [does it always mean eternally, or does it also deal with unspecified time, limited time, and great distance], and in regards the wicked?

    Are you saying that the devil was correct in Eden, that all the wicked, including himself would exist forever?

    Revelation 20:13 KJB - And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

    Do all wicked then receive the same judgment of eternal tormenting forever, in unending agonies? If so, how is that just of God, doleing out the same eternal length to all equally, from lowest sinner to satan?

    Are you saying that God must sustain these sinners in this fire forever and ever?

    Revelation 20:10, deals with an unspecifed, but lengthy [limited, for sin has a limit, James 1:15 KJB] time [satan burns the longest, having the greatest crimes], and no relief in the punishment, which will continue through the daytime and the nighttime, until the wages for sin takes place, "... shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

    The issue, is how the Bible defines "for ever and ever", and in how the Bible speaks in several other places about the final state of the devil and the wicked, and in how the Bible speaks about the character and loving justice of God.

    If you simply are going to insist that when the Bible says "for ever and ever" it always means eternal, unending, without a whole Bible study on such a phrase and words, then I can say no more.

    Ok, the "smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever". This does not deal with 'time', but 'distance' [height, ascending up to heaven]. The smoke goes "up" forever and ever. In otherwords, up and out of sight into the stratosphere.:

    For [it is] the day of the LORD'S vengeance, [and] the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. Isaiah 34:8

    And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. Isaiah 34:9

    It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever. Isaiah 34:10

    See:

    And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Revelation 14:11

    See also:

    And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, Revelation 18:9

    And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all. Revelation 18:14

    And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What [city is] like unto this great city! Revelation 18:18

    And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast [it] into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. Revelation 18:21

    And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft [he be], shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; Revelation 18:22

    And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. Revelation 18:23

    And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. Revelation 19:3

    We may also directly compare to Sodom and Gomorrah, which are set forth as an example of what comes in the end, total destruction, leaving nothing, but ashes and smoke rising into the sky...:

    And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. Genesis 19:28

    Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, [and] we should have been like unto Gomorrah. Isaiah 1:9

    As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour [cities] thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it. Jeremiah 49:18

    As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour [cities] thereof, saith the LORD; [so] shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein. Jeremiah 50:40

    But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed [them] all. Luke 17:29

    And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned [them] with an overthrow, making [them] an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 2 Peter 2:6

    Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Jude 1:7

    Sodom and Gomorrah [peoples and citizens, items, animals, etc] are not still burning, nor even still smoking, they are ashes and dust, and no more for they were punished with the fire of God completely destroying them.

    We may also compare to the destruction of the city of Ai:

    And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers. Joshua 8:20

    And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai. Joshua 8:21

    We may also compare in the book of Judges:

    Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city. Judges 20:38

    But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven. Judges 20:40

    Elsewhere:

    For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up [like] the lifting up of smoke. Isaiah 9:18

    We may also compare to the smoke upon Mt. Sinai, where God Himself descended and touched that mountain with His own feet:

    And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. Exodus 19:18

    Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. (Psalms 69:28)

    For in the hand of the LORD [there is] a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring [them] out, [and] drink [them]. (Psalms 75:8)

    The words used so far in describing the end of the wicked are Destroy, Blotted Out, Perished, Consumed Utterly, Cut Off, Dissolved, Melted, Devoured, Dead, Death, Hath Not Been, Not [any/no more], Burned Up, etc. [all taken from Strong's]:

    [Hebrew: machah מחה; meaning: to wipe out; blot out, obliterate; exterminated]
    [Hebrew: macah מסה; meaning: melt away, dissolve, liquefy, consumed]
    [Hebrew: muwg מוג; meaning: to melt, dissolve, faint, dissipate, flow away]
    [Hebrew: muwth מות; meaning: dead, death, kill, slain]
    [Hebrew: da`ak דעך; meaning: extinguished, to go out, put out, dry up, made extinct, quenched]

    Additionally, it is the Righteous who will eternally dwell with God, who is “a Spirit” [John 4:24 KJB], and “the Holy Spirit” the fullness of “fire” [Acts 2:3; Revelation 1:4; 4:5 KJB], who “baptize/s” with “fire” [Matthew 3:11; Mark 9:49; Luke 3:16 KJB], thus we will dwell with “everlasting burnings” [Isaiah 33:14 KJB], for God is a “consuming fire” [to sin and of “Love”] [Deuteronomy 4:24, 9:3; Hebrews 12:29; 1 John 4:8,16 KJB] and a “fire goeth before Him” [Psalms 97:3 KJB] which “shall devour before Him” [Psalms 50:3 KJB] and “he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire” [Lamentations 2:3 KJB], and for those whom He loves He is a “wall of fire round about” [Zechariah 2:5 KJB] and His “ministers a flame of fire” [Psalms 104:4; Hebrews 1:7 KJB] and His “tongue as a devouring fire” [Isaiah 30:7 KJB] His speech “fire” [2 Samuel 22:9; Psalms 18:8; Jeremiah 20:9; Acts 2:3; 2 Thessalonians 2:8 KJB], His “eyes … as a flame of fire” [Revelation 1:14, 2:18, 19:12 KJB], His “face as the sun” and His “feet a pillar of fire” [Matthew 17:2; 2 Corinthians 4:6; Revelation 1:15, 2:18, 10:1 KJB], for He is a “refiners fire” [Malachi 3:2 KJB] having a “throne of fire” [Psalms 89:36; Daniel 7:9; Ezekiel 1:26-28; Revelation 4:5 KJB], His Ten Commandments a “Fiery Law” [Deuteronomy 33:2; Ezekiel 28:14,16 KJB] and it is they who have the victory over sin who stand upon the sea of glass mingled with fire [Revelation 15:2 KJB], and will be as the burning bush which was not consumed [Exodus 3:3 KJB], for He is “Light”, even the Light of all.

    However, the wicked are never immortal, for they are to be burnt up into smoke and ashes at the meeting out of Judgment, they are perished forever; Job 20:26,29, 31:2-3; Psalms 7:9, 9:17, 11:6, 21:9, 37:10, 37:20, 37:28,38, 68:2, 69:28, 75:8,10, 92:7,9, 104:35, 106:18, 112:10, 145:20; Proverbs 2:22, 10:25,28,30, 12:7, 13:9, 14:11, 24:20; Ezekiel 18:4, 18:20; Isaiah 13:9, 66:17,24; Nahum 1:10; Obadiah 1:16; Zephaniah 1:2-3; Matthew 10:28; John 3:16; Romans 6:23; Hebrews 6:8; James 1:15; 2 Peter 3:10; Revelation 20:9, 21:4 KJB.

    You want an argument. You are itching for one, but as I've already stated, I'm not interested. Please move on.

    You are a Baptist, right, why then not go back to your own heritage, and leave Roman doctrine behind?

    Samuel Richardson (1633-1658)

    Pastor, First Particular Baptist Church, of London wrote a discourse entitled :

    "A Discourse on the Torments of Hell : The Foundations and Pillars therof discover'd, serch'd, shaken, and remov'd. With Infallible Proofs that there is not to be a punishment after this Life, for any to endure that shall never end" 1658 [see also Page 70 here, right hand top Column] - A Baptist Bibliography

    Modern era:

    "... annihilationists come from and are part of any number of different denominations. ...

    ... E. Earle Ellis was a professor of theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Southern Baptist Convention) until he fell asleep. Similarly, Dale Moody taught at Southern Baptist Seminary (also SBC). I bet you never thought conservative Southern Baptists would hold this view! Claude Mariottini, Old Testament professor at Northern Baptist Seminary (American Baptist Convention), is also an annihilationist, 7 ..." - Don’t Be Afraid to Rethink Hell: Why Other Beliefs Needn’t Get In Your Way

    "... I was a few weeks into the research when I read an article by a renown Southern Baptist New Testament scholar named E. Earle Ellis titled “The New Testament Teaching on Hell.” In it, he argued fairly and thoroughly that the New Testament advocates for an annihilation view of hell. This caught me off guard; I didn’t know he was going to argue for this. I read the article very casually, thinking it was going to be yet another defense of the traditional view. After all, Ellis is Southern Baptist. He’s evangelical. And he didn’t front his view at the beginning. He simply looked at all the relevant passages, exegeted them (with the exegetical methods I was taught in seminary), and then concluded that hell would not last forever; that is, its inhabitants would not experience everlasting conscious torment. And Ellis argued this from the text. ..." - Is Annihilation an Evangelical Option?

    General Baptists In his "Institutes of Ecclesiastical History" chancellor of the University of Gottingen, Johann L. von Mosheim records that the "General Baptists" where spread in large numbers over many of the provinces of England As one article of faith they held:

    "that the soul, between death and the resurrection at the last day, has neither pleasure nor pain, but is in a state of insensibility." - [see Page 697] Mosheim's Institutes of Ecclesiastical History, Ancient and Modern
