Word of mouth from other believers
John 20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her. [see also Matt 28:8]

    Preachers
Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.

Many other instances in the book of Acts.

Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent?

Can a created being be equal to God?
Some of His attributes are incommunicable.

How would we have a true and accurate knowledge that any of this is necessary?
In other words, who is the "Christ?
Why do we need salvation to begin with?
    Salvation from what?
How long does salvation last? Etc, you get the idea.

Okay, so how would others believe these word of mouth claims if for example Catholics by word of mouth say Mary is co- mediatrix,
Or Joey Smith tells us what moroni, told him?
If we have writings that are God breathed and attested by Apostolic miracles would you agree we could sort out which word of mouth accounts are true?

    Who is Jesus? Which Jesus?
    What did he do?
Would we have the BIBLICAL JESUS without the bible?
    Do you see the dilemma?
We know of the infinite, eternal value of the person and work of Jesus.
How do we know for sure?
Do we have a more sure word of prophecy?

Amen. Without a doubt the greatest gift of the giver is himself, but with God this goes deeper than I can fathom.

“He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” –Romans 8:32.

“And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” –1 John 5:11.

“If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation: The old has gone, the new is here!” –1 Corinthians 5:17.

The emphasis must be on being in Christ, for it is from this all else comes. The blessings of the word are made manifest in Christ, are found in Christ.

What has more value, the Book describing who God is, or God Himself?

Paul Himself calls Jesus the greatest gift, not the Bible!

Where was that? Where do you know what Paul said?
    Have you channeled Paul?
How do you know if Paul said any such thing?

    Which Christ? Who is Christ?
    What has He accomplished?
You made several statements about Him, wonderful statements...how do you know they are true and accurate?

Where do you get the idea that hell exists?
Where do we learn of something that is unseen in the natural realm?

I'd say the greatest gift given to humanity is God giving of Himself in the person of Jesus Christ.

The reason I believe this is that the Scripture is a testimony of this Gift (the Bible points to the Son, is about the Son, and what the Son has done).

As Spurgeon would say, the wrapping, while important, is not more important than the gift. We cannot know God except through Christ. We can do without Scripture if we must, and rely on oral tradition as so many have throughout the ages. I suspect theology would greatly suffer, but God's Word will nonetheless not come back empty. God saves, not Scripture.

The gospel message is never more important than the gospel itself, the good news is not more important than the event or Person of whom that news speaks.

The testimony (scripture) is not greater than that of which it testifies about.

    Feel free to quote me.

    Who says? Who is Jesus?
    What did He do?
Why did He do what He did?
Why does anything matter, who says it does?

That said, and I'm sure @tyndale1946 would agree, I'd be in the top ten of this list of greatest gifts God has given to humanity. :Thumbsup
