Romans 9 is Pauls expression for the love for Israel .
Mathew 16 is before the cross ( context) and if you are a believer you have found ' it ' . Loving God is not a requirement to BE saved . A sinner cannot just simply Love God arbitrarily if he is not saved . After He is in Christ, love of God is shed abroad in our hearts . " Love me ,or else " is not the Gospel .

loving God is believing the Gospel and telling others . Not waving your hands in the air , speaking tongues ,during the church service and tithing .

The "Catholic Works" that make Protestants like me a bit uncomfortable look something like this ...
I overslept and missed Mass during a Holy Day of Obligation.
I must now attend confession on Saturday to obtain my penance and absolution so that I am purified to attend Mass on Sunday.

I will happily acknowledge that that I may have gotten the "official" theology of the Roman Catholic Church wrong in my scenario, however I can assure you that is the "Catholic Street Theology" of the common laity and a real scenario played out every week in countless parishes around the world.

    GOOD SAMARITAN? ----> DAMNED SAMARITAN.

Maybe you are a closet Calvinist? Certainly got the T down. How about show scripture to back up your Calvinist theory.

"" Love me ,or else " is not the Gospel "

You really want to go this route? LOVING GOD is not required?

This is Basic Christianity, There is an ENTIRE EPISTLE

    John 14

21“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”

23Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. 24“He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

    1 John 2

10The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

    1 John 3
10By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

23This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. 24The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

Here's the problem, Folks don't know who God is.

    1 John 4

7Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

16We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

Would you agree that everyone today who has been sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption ( Eph 1.13-14 and eph 4.30 ) is a Christian ( believer) ?And everyone who is not sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption, is not a believer and will go to hell ?
Also I completely reject all 5 points of Calvinism .

And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Romans 5.5 has this happened to unbelivers ?
loving God and neighbour was for Israel to do in actions not just " oh God I really ,really ,really love you ❤

    Jesus answers this perfectly.

    Luke 10

25And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” 27And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” 28And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.”

And then the example Jesus gives is Good Samaritan.

29But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30Jesus replied and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. 31“And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32“Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33“But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, 34and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35“On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’ 36“Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?37And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”

Is this good Samaritan or damned Samaritan?

A faith DEVOID of Love that is called evil. I can give you scripture flat out saying so.

    1 Corinthians 13
2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

In other words its requires THE GOOD WORK --> Love God.

Love God is the highest priority. No greater reward. We have entire epistles pointing this out, like 2 John 1.

The only time the bible writes out the unbiblical slogan "FAITH ALONE"

    James 2

24You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.

    2 Peter 1

5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

Why do you have to add goodness to faith? Because it doesn't have any.
Why do you have to add knowledge to faith? Because it doesn't have any.
Why do you have to add self-control to faith? Because it doesn't have any.
Why do you have to add perseverance to faith? Because it doesn't have any.
Why do you have to add godliness to faith? Because it doesn't have any.
Why do you have to add mutual affection to faith? Because it doesn't have any.
Why do you have to add Love to faith? Because it doesn't have any.

    James 2
14What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?

Answer the man.^ Tell him it sure can.

    James 2

20But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?

Answer the man^ tell him its USEFUL.

    James 2

26For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

James 2 8If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF,” you are doing well.

The guy who invented faith alone, wanted to get rid of the book of James, gee I wonder why.

"In a word St. John’s Gospel and his first epistle, St. Paul’s epistles, especially Romans, Galatians, and Ephesians, and St. Peter’s first epistle are the books that show you Christ and teach you all that is necessary and salvatory for you to know, even if you were never to see or hear any other book or doctrine. Therefore St. James’ epistle is really an epistle of straw, compared to these others, for it has nothing of the nature of the gospel about it. " -- Martin Luther (LW 35:362)

Same guy who thought of other horrible ideas like not killing Jews is a sin. Wrote a book called:
On the Jews and Their Lies
On the Jews and Their Lies - Wikipedia

As yourself why would anyone be so oppose the BIBLICAL phrase "faith working through love"?

    Galatians 5

    6
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.

God is LOVE and if you need to undermine Christianity LOVE is enemy #1.

We do not obsess over salvation. Salvation is not the priority.

Love God is the priority. They say Loving God is not going to save you.

I'm telling you so what!? I rather Love God

Ok you keep doing it .
Let's see ,after the cross and the resurrection, just a major distinction you perhaps haven't noticed.
    Acts 16
29¶Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31¶And they said, to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.” is that what they said ? or :
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.?
    1cor 15

    1¶Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3¶For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.” ? Or :
    how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

    Rom 10
    8But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9That if you , “ LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.” or :
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.?

Believing the LORD JESUS CHRIST doesn't equate to merely Jesus exists.

    John 3 :16
16“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

    John 3:36
36“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

The opposite of believing in Jesus is NOT OBEYING.

There is no difference to the command after the cross. In the NEW TESTAMENT John writes an ENTIRE EPISTLE.

    2 John 1

1The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth, 2for the sake of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever: 3Grace, mercy and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we have received commandment to do from the Father. 5Now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another. 6And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

7For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. 8Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. 9Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. 10If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; 11for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.

12Though I have many things to write to you, I do not want to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, so that your joy may be made full.

13The children of your chosen sister greet you.

ITs the SAME TEACHING SINCE THE BEGINNING. That we love one another.

And it is deceivers who do not abide in the teaching of Christ.

"you are saved by faith alone" -- Things Jesus Christ NEVER SAID.

Why is this letter about sticking with the same exact commandments? Rather than faith alone?

If you think Love God and Love neighbor is meaningless after the cross and Here John after the ascension of Jesus is WARNING that folks will try to lose that teaching? Then YOU have been decieved.

We have no problem with faith. Without faith you cannot please God.

All you have to say, as the bible says "FAITH WORKING THROUGH LOVE". Why are you taught to hate and disregard love? Why is it necessary for faith to be DEVOID OF LOVING GOD?

"1 cor 13 in context is about the misuse and having the wrong idea about the gifts. Paul is simply showing ' a more excellent way " Charity . The gifts will cease ,but Chairty will remain ."

CHARITY = LOVE AGAPE. You are right its about having the wrong idea bout the gifts, YOU HAVE THE WRONG IDEA!

You think FAITH is superior to LOVE. INDEED THE GOOD WORK--> CHARITY is more EXCELLENT.

LOVE is GOD. IF I said Faith is God that would be a blasphemy THERE is only ONE GOD. LOVE is GOD.
