I am pro-KJV but not a KJOnlyist.
o

Exactly
What is a "Pro-KJV"
How is it different that a KJO?

Does it mean you use other versions
or maybe just certain versions?

Probably means that Kjv is the best version, as all others are inferior!

I have used other versions. Only to be disapointed with textual readings chosen and translation choices. I had used the NKJV for a while, but issues of translation choices.
Of the modern versions the NKJV is currently the only major modern version I would recommend.

The KJV faults are well known. The Greek NT text I favor is Dr Wilbur N. Pickering's F35GNT.

My first Greek NT was a Nestle Greek NT with textual variants apparatus that I baught in 1968. It help me see the issue between the KJV and modern versions choices of texts. That a few manuscripts because they were oldest where some how better readings than the common readings of a text did not seem right. Adam Clarke on 1 John 5:7 made it understandable that it was not original. Also its few manuscripts are late not old.

Matthew 4:4 and John 8:47, John 7:17, are few of the important teachings in my view. Of course not everything.

I use the KJV because at 69 years of age, I've been using it for 63 years, and I prefer it to other versions. Too many verses memorized from it, too much familiarity with it, just prefer it. Use whatever YOU like, but why criticize someone for what THEY prefer? Almost every Christian forum has people bashing the KJV......and please, don't tell me that KJVOnlyism is what they're really bashing......there's just too many negative comments about the KJV to deny the bashing. In my experience, KJVOism is very, very rare, and not worth all the time some people spend on it. There are some that, it seems, wouldn't even have a life, or know what to do with themselves if KJVO went away. Kinda like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, they WANT racism to continue, because without it, they've got nothing.

1) thus you are like me - a KJV-T (by tradition or whatever term you choose)
(and B4L - we are about the same age)
2) I do think most non KJO do not criticize the KJV - we criticize the "O" part of KJV.
3) If KJO - people are rare - then they do a lot of complaining.
4) IMHO - non KJO folks do not want to be criticized for use a "perversion version" (which said term is normally not permitted on BB)

I had started a KJV poll - cannot seem to find it - but will start a new one- esp since we have many new members: Click here:

are the other English versions still then the word of God to us to read and use?

the KjVO group though is very vocal, and go out of their way to make sure that all other English versions are corrupted or even satanic based!

All that we need is to have the KJVO accept the simple truth that not even the 1611 translators would agree with them!

I understand the point made. It is preference, not “onlyism”.

I had a professor urge us to use the KJV simply because most of our congregations are familiar with it and it can be harder to follow along with the sermon.

peace to you

No problem with preference, but is with only!

Yes, but either less or more than the KJV. I am persuaded that they are less so to the KJV by reason of the textual evidence. The originators of the modern translations think their translations more so the word of God. NASB, MLV, etc, they think because of the textual evidence.

The attituded that a variant does not matter is a wrong attituded. Matthew 4:4. (Luke 4:4)

Other that that, I know of zero KJVO churches.

We have one about 2 miles from us that is not only KJVO, but has a plaque on the wall saying if you weren't saved from a preached KJV you aren't saved.

(We don't go there, obviously).

I would describe myself as pro KJV. I use several versions, but KJV is my favorite. I use it exclusively for memorization.

and I see no problem with that - Its what Ziggy said in post 18 about that one church - now that way out of bounds.
