It is my understanding that Baptists disagree on the interpertation of the term "baptism" in some passages of Scripture.
    Romans 6:3.
    1 Corinthians 12:13.
    Ephesians 4:4-6.
    Hebrews 6:2.
And there may be some other references.

My self, I understand Romans 6:3 and Ephesians 4:6 to refer to water immersion.
And that 1 Corinthians 12:13 to mean the immersion by the Holy Spirit into the one body of Christ.
The teaching singular of immersions plural, Hebrews 6:2, to refer to water, the Holy Spirit and the lake of fire in the finial judgement. Luke 3:16-17.
That John 3:5 has nothing to do with believers water immersion.

Buried, by a figure, Picturing What Jesus Did of us when He was Buried and Rose again.

This a figurative usage of the word, 'baptized' to indicate the believer Agrees Jesus Died for them.

My paraphrase, as to 'How 1 Corinthians 12:13 should be 'read':

13 For by one Spirit are we (Believers in Corinth Supernaturally Enabled and Guided to follow the Lord's Example and Command are)

    all

(Led to be water) baptized into one body (There is one (Kind of local, assembling, congregated, Divinely Organized) body), whether we be Jews or Greeks {Gentiles}, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink (in Salvation) into one Spirit.

(We believers at Corinth have been Saved by The Same Spirit,
so we can BE LED TO ASSEMBLE, TOGETHER, BY The Same Holy Spirit )

Again: For by one Spirit are we (Believers in Corinth Supernaturally Enabled and Guided to follow the Lord's Example and Command are) all (Led to be water) baptized into one body (There is one (Kind of local, assembling, congregated, Divinely Organized) body), whether we be Jews or Greeks {Gentiles}, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink ( in Salvation) into one Spirit.

My paraphrase, as to 'How Ephesians 4:4-6 should be 'read':

    4There is one (Kind of local, assembling, congregated, Divinely Organized) body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5One Lord, one faith, one baptism (water),

6One God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

    Romans 6:3 figurative
and Ephesians 4:6 water baptism; one baptism.

The Holy Spirit has never Immersed or Baptized anything.

There is no 'one body' that anyone could be 'Spirit-baptized' into, even if there was such a thing as "Spirit Baptizing" something.

    Hebrews 6:2 pagan rituals

Luke 3:16-17. Jesus Baptized, figuratively, HIS Church at Jerusalem, of His John the Baptist Baptized believers, with ANOTHER COMFORTER ( Anointing The Most Holy, Daniel 9).

This is the ONE TIME Anointing of The Shekinah Glory onto His Assembled church, at Jerusalem, on The Day of Pentecost, to Publically Inaugualate HIS HOLY TABERNACLE and Booth and Tent, to Re-store The Dynasty of David, in The New Testament Age of Churches (all local that are His).

Jesus will baptize, figuratively, those unbelievers John was talking to with FIRE, in The Lake of Fire. See context, before and after, also.

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water

( the natural breaking of water, in Childbirth/ that which is born of the FLESH,
in answer to, 'can a man who is born return to his mother's womb?)

    and of the Spirit,

(Born from above to Quicken the dead spirit of an individual to Enable them to Relate to God, WHO is DIVINE SPIRIT, by Adoption into His Family, Given the Seal of The Holy Spirit, and to Partake of The Divine Nature, for the first time)

he cannot enter into the kingdom of God (those who ARE NOT BORN AGAIN & disagree).

In the past - I have seen where some liberal-minded individual local Baptist churches have permitted sprinkling.
    But nothing widespread

I understand you to be creating a false dichotomy with scripture holding meaning on multiple levels and teaching parallel physical, topological and spiritual truths.

    Already and Not Yet.

Give how you understand the term in any of those passages.

The reformation Baptist John Smyth promoted believers baptism. My understanding, was not at first an immersionist.

Some Baptists understand the "one baptism" in Ephesians 4:4-6 to be the Holy Spirit not the water baptism.

Another point of interpertation where believers differ in understanding, Romans 8:23.

    O.K, let's see....

John the Baptist was the First Immersionist.

    ...

By "Arguing from Silence" it is possible:

"Some Baptists understand the "one baptism" in Ephesians 4:4-6
to be the Holy Spirit not the water baptism.

    ...

Does anyone care what the Bible Says?

I do not think we need to fight about this. But I do think those who hold a strong view should defind that view.

Smyth was ordained as an Anglican priest in 1594 in England.
Shortly after took a group to Holland - then baptized himself
John Smyth (Baptist minister) - Wikipedia

Thus he was taught and believed (at first) that sprinkling was acceptable
but then ended up being a Mennonite

Roger Williams was very similar - orginally ordained as an Anglican priest.
Was run out of Boston - took a group to Rhode Island - started First Baptist of Providence
    later became a seeker.

I believe we both care. There are three possibilties where we dsagree on the meaning of a passage of Scripture. You are correct and I am mistaken. You are mistaken and I cam correct. Or we are both mistaken in some way.

There are indeed references to water baptism and Holy Spirit Baptism, and must use wisdom in discerning winch is being talked about!

Thus, when counting, we have two baptisms.....

    Not, 'one baptism'.

    Water.

The Holy Spirit has never baptized anything.
