A good read-out-loud Bible, smooth language construction

I've been using the CSB as my main Bible for preaching and Bible teaching for a few years now. I think it is an excellent translation both in terms of accuracy and readability. No translation will ever be perfect.

In general, I'm thankful that we are blessed with so many excellent Bible translations in English. When it comes to Bible translation, my hearts greater concern is for people groups that either have no translation, or perhaps one old, rarely used, not very good translation and similar situations. May God bless those who give, support, train, pray for and go for the task of Bible translation!

Are there any particular editions of the CSB that you're fond of?

I prefer the 2017 revision over the first one that came out. I haven't used the 2020 revision.

I don't use print Bible much. I like using a Bible program (I still use BibleWorks) and being able to quickly check many resources. Even for devotional reading, I usually read online.

As recently as two days ago you said the NASB95 used to be your primary translation until the ESV came along. You said that you appreciate the ESV for its economy of words compared with the NASB.

You have recently said that you appreciate the way the ESV maintains that melodic, lilting and majestic sound.

You have stated that the ESV "sounds like the Bible." :)

So what's the deal? Where do you now stand?

All the above is true. What can I say. Your posts have influenced my thinking, sir.

Although the ESV is currently my primary Bible translation, I find the CSB is a fine translation, also.

And when I come across a "difficult" passage in the ESV, I find it incredibly helpful to read and compare the same passage in the CSB.

In fact, I'm amazed at how closely they resemble each other.

Often, the CSB simply changes the world order to conform to modern English grammar, and sentence structure.

Furthermore, I'd be happy to recommend the CSB to new believers, the biblically illiterate, those who struggle with reading compression, individuals for whom English is a second language, or anyone looking to add variety to their daily Bible devotions, etc.

And I can certainly see why it would be good for preaching and teaching, if one so desires.

Didst thou not know that in Elizabethan English the word "compression" meant "comprehension" in today's Modern English? ;) :D

    *Just kidding, of course!*

Regarding the CSB: I believe it's a shame that so many people reject it "out of hand," so to speak, because they think, "The CSB? Oh, no! That's a Southern Baptist Bible. It's bound to have denominational bias."

I think more of the reaction is not that it is SBC but gender issues.

I've been hearing that about the updated NASB (2020).

I like the CSB, but I wish it didn't have the gender inclusive language.
