If someone tells me their name is Alice, that's the name I go with. People use nicknames all the time and I don't question them. Plus some parents give boys stereotypically feminine names, and other parents give girls stereotypically masculine names.

I've personally known a women named Lee. My paternal grandmother was named Joe. There's a well known Southern Baptist instigator with the first and middle name of Leighton Paige. Do you think all those people are trans? Or more importantly, do you check genitals when someone introduces themselves?

Seriously, there are bigger issues to be concerned about.

I'd say I'll use the pronouns I learded from my parents & in school: "him" for a male, "her" for a female, "they, them, their" for plural people, not "Bill started THEIR new job".

When a purely evil, Satanic ideology is being pushed onto our children in public schools: and Christians are being told they must conform to this evil ideology by accepting that men can be women and women can be men, and that trans ideology isn’t grooming kids for sexual exploitation; and we are “transphobic” if we don’t comply; and we should just be nice and go along with the mental illness….

….I don’t see “bigger issues” to worry about since these men, dressed as women or not dressed at all, marched down the street and chanted…

…WE ARE COMING FOR YOUR KIDS!!!”…

There is no bigger issue facing our children today than this evil ideology being pushed in our schools and being supported by some Christians who are BLIND to the danger to our children.

    peace to you

You keep repeating the same things over and over as if I don't get it.

    I get it.

You are heavily invested in the right-wing propaganda fear machine and have oriented your life (given yourself in discipleship to it) to fight the culture wars. To do so you have had to abandon important parts of our discipleship (like telling the truth about one's "enemies," loving one's neighbors/enemies, turn the other cheek, do not repay evil for evil, etc.) in order to fight the culture wars more effectively. The culture wars are all about gaining/maintaining power in the world through the power of earthy kingdoms. The example of Jesus is the exact opposite of that.

God knows what is going on better than any of us, and the Jesus way is truth and life. The principles Jesus laid out are effective and eternal in God's terms. If Jesus wanted to usher in an earthly kingdom at this stage of history, He would have done it. The only methods we are authorized to used to influence the culture are the methods that come through Christian discipleship. There will come a day when the earth will be united under the Kingdom of God, but it will not come by human being wielding swords or passing laws.

In the present turmoil, consider the lesson Jesus taught The Twelve (Luke 8:22–25) -- Jesus and The Twelve were in a boat and Jesus fell fast asleep. While He was sleeping, a storm whipped up and the turbulence was so strong The Twelve were certain they were about to drown. In a panic, they woke Him up. He commanded the wind and waves to stop, chastising them for their lack of faith. They actually seemed to believe that God was going to allow everything to be destroyed.

There are people shouting at you, wanting you to panic and throw away your faith and your discipleship to Christ. Don't fall for it.

As a pastor, I would sit down with Tom and ask him WHY he want to be known as Alice.
Based on his answer, we would then go into some detail.
You mentioned the " right-wing propaganda fear machine" The reason we need to be concerned is because of the extremist left policies of subjecting our children to activities pushed by Satanic ideology!

If I were not a pastor, and I were a close friend of Tom, I may initiate a conversation- then ask the pastor to intervene.

Now, as far as church discipline - - if he was determine to live as Alice, then the church should not allow him to hold any office and possibly put him on the inactive list. Of course, he should be given Scripture as to why doing so is wrong.

PS - Using a name such as Tony, Dana, Lee, ect is a whole different story.

I think you have the right instinct to want to have a conversation. Every situation is different. I realize you want to have a "policy" (a law) that you apply to everyone regardless of individual circumstances. The problem with that is persons who experience gender dysphoria have a multitude of circumstances. Some have even started their lives with male and female genitals (at various stages of functionality), and doctors made a decision that the person has had to live with.

A friend of mine has a niece/nephew that was born with non-functional (partially-formed) male and female genitals. Because it is easier to dig a hole than to plant a tree, they make the newborn female in appearance. The child was raised and socialized as a girl, but when the child hit adolescence, the child was exclusively attracted to girls and felt like a boy in the wrong body. So tell me, is the child sinning or immoral? Would it be wrong for the child to identify as a male, even though their remaining external equipment doesn't conform to society's norms? How would you advise this child of God? (Remember, this is an absolutely real situation, not these weird hypotheticals some folks are throwing around.)

Yes, you are repeating the right-wing fear propaganda quite well. I happen to know that a lot of those allegations are false. Moreover, I have faith in the ways of Jesus.

So here springs the left wing propaganda.

    1. Any complaint about grooming kindergarteners for sexual exploitation by pushing trans ideology in them is being @heavily invested in the “right wing propaganda fear machine”

Just shut up folks. Let these radicals teach your children pure evil. God knows what’s going on. You just focus on loving your neighbors while your children are being sacrificed.

    2. Opposing trans ideology being taught to your children is just like taking up swords to conquer to usher in the Kingdom of God and we are not to take up swords.

    3. Don’t Panic! When you see the radicals grooming your children for sexual exploitation DON’T PANIC!

Any opposition to this evil is a sign of panic and that you are “throwing away your faith” in Jesus.

Again, just shut up folks! Let the devil win the day! Don’t oppose evil. Don’t fight to protect your children from this evil.

No thank you. You cannot shame me into silence. You cannot question my faith, I will not yield to this evil.

    peace to you

That's good. I'm not trying to shame you or silence you. I'm pointing you to Jesus.

Unless your faith is an anti-christian culture war, I am not questioning it. I'm pointing you to Jesus. He is better.

    Follow Jesus.

First, I would tell her to be careful not to let those who are pushing a radical trans ideology, and those making excuses for it, exploit her rare genetic disorder by comparing it to the mental illness of gender dysphoria.

Next, I would advise her to get a genetic test to see if she is XX or XY chromosomes.

And she needs counseling to accept who she is, regardless of the outcome.

    Peace to you

Again, you are accusing me of not following Jesus if I oppose the grooming for sexual exploitation of children and equating that opposition to an “anti-Christian culture war”. You are wrong on both points. The “anti-Christians are those pushing trans ideology.

Let me assure you, you do not need to point me to Jesus. I’m already there.

    Peace to you

No, I'm not. You keep jumping to that conclusion for rhetorical advantage.

Since I didn't make those points (you did), I'm not the one that's wrong. You are condemning your own misunderstanding.

I'm glad you have arrived. Have patience with the rest of us who are still on the journey of faith.

I doubt this teen has encountered the "radical trans ideology" since they have, up until recent years, grown up in a hard-core fundamentalist Baptist church. As I understand it, this child is now unchurched because the church treated the child as a "sinner."

No one is making excuses. People are dealing with realities.

It's not really that rare. It is rarely talking about because of the stigma. It is at least a birth defect, although it might be a genetic disorder.

I'm sure you would have identified this person as mentally ill based on all your previous posts.

I'm sure there have been plenty of genetic tests, but I don't know anything about them nor are they my business. You should also know that there is significant doubt as to whether or not the XX or XY chromosome is actually the chromosome that determines gender, or simply a chromosome that usually aligns with the gender caused by another chromosome or an undefined (at this time) part of DNA. We have only been doing widespread DNA testing for the last 20-25 years, and we have discovered that persons with female genitals can be XY and persons with masculine genitals can be XY, as well as several other variations. But don't believe me, do a little homework.

So if this person is determined to be XY, you want a counselor to convince this "biological male" (aka XY) person to be a trans female?

    Two things:

    1) I have seen comments way too close to accusing someone of Not following Jesus. Those comments end NOW!

    2) Just because someone says they want to be trans - DOES not mean a person is mentally ill. If they are not - then what it could be - is that the Ultra extremist Leftist have misled people!

I don’t believe you. This is pure radical trans ideology pretending to be dcience.

Absolutely shameful that you are repeating it.

I completely agree the radical left are misleading our kids.

Traditionally, those with gender dysphoria make up a fraction of 1% of the population. Very rare.

I recently saw a poll were over 20% of young people (up to early 20’s) were identifying as something other than their biological sex.

This is, imo, a direct result of targeting children as early as kindergarten and pushing the idea of gender confusion on them.

It is pure evil. It must be confronted and stopped.

    peace to you

I am not a professional counselor. I would expect a professional counselor to follow established counseling guidelines to help a person with a very rare genetic disorder accept her situation and lead as normal a life as possible.

Additionally, I would advise her not to allow those pushing trans ideology, or making excuses for it, to use her tragic circumstances to gain sympathy for their evil pursuits.

Her rare genetic disorder does not make her mentally ill.

    peace to you

As I said to teenagers in Bible studies in years past who challenged me, "what you believe and don't believe is under your control alone. All I can do is testify to what I know. The responsibility is now in your hands."

Did you do your homework or are you just reacting according to what you want to be true? I would try to give you a link, but you would simply dismiss it as propaganda. I'm sure you know how to use a search engine, so go have fun.

    Thank you for your opinion.

I don't know what you mean by "traditionally." What tradition?

    What poll was that?

Or it could be that our culture war culture is imposing rigid male/female stereotypes upon children when most children don't actually fit the stereotypes. Moreover, we have had a long-lasting breakdown in the community where children don't have as many healthy role models of both genders. If a boy is not like his father (or father-figure), then what might he conclude? If a girl is not like her mother (or female role model), then what might she conclude?

I was simply pointing you to Jesus (take a look at His teaching and how He handled things), like most Christian sermons do. You took it as some sort of attack on your faith. You claimed you were "already there," as if you don't need to discover anything more about Jesus.

My apologies if that hurt your feelings.
