The US is not an empire.
The US is an empire. We have over 850 military bases world wide. We spend more on our military than all other militaries combined. We start all wars on this planet since WW2. We overthrow Governments and cause coups all of the time. We have interest all over the world. Look what we done to Venezuela. Look at what we are trying to do with Iran. Look at what we are trying and have done to many others.

It does depend on what you want out of life.

It seems that many people want the good life but are not willing to put in the work to achieve that goal.
This is true regardless of whether you live im Canada or the US. I can see Canada being a better opportunity for some things, the US for others.

Take Canada vs the US for starting a business. In the US employers pay medical coverage, adfing about 15% to an employees salary. But in Canada employers pay additional money in payroll taxes (15% with an effectual rate of 23% to 30% depending on area).

What has been explained to me is Canada is fairly good for starting a business but the US is better for growth.

The person explaining this to me (moved from Canada and is now a US citizen) owns a fairly small service oriented business. I think the biggest reason for moving was his wife, who is a doctor.

But to each his own. Most of us - hopefully - are more apt to remain in our own country.

12 bases have less then 1,000 personnel
of which 5 have less than 500
More than 1,000 U.S. Marines are stationed at overseas embassies and consulates, serving as Marine Security Guards (MSGs) to ensure the safety and security of diplomatic missions worldwide.

Do you have a link indicating that the USA spends more on defense then all other countries combined.
What I found is that the US spends about 40% of all worldwide defense - so is your stat incorrect?

I further found that the US spends more on defense then the next 3 countries
So # 5 -40 are not included in that!

No, although some argue we are. If we ruled our allies then we would be an empire, but leading land for military bases does not make the US an empire. Causing wars does not make the US an empire.

And, obviously, the US has not started all wars since WW2 (that was a foolish statememt).

Yes, I like what we did in Venezuela. Hundreds of political prisoners have been released, and for the first time in decades there is a potential economic uptake (time will tell). It is still volatile, but no worse than before the intervention and at least there is potential.

DJT wants Canada to be the 51st state but gets upset when we say no thanks we would rather work with the EU.
No, Trumps worst nightmare is Dems winning the White House and Congress and giving Iran a nuclear weapon.

Canada already whipped the U.S. in one war, no need to risk it again.

Peace to you

I know several who have not been able to get the care they needed. And several who had to wait months for treatment.

I also heard from then that the medical facilities were overcrowded and they used ward rooms (like in the 1950's here...three or four people to a room).

But a couple of these had additional insurance as well (I do not know the ins snd outs of Canada's healthcare).

Access, though, would be the concern as our hospital environment, while it speaks to privacy, does not necessarily speak to care.

When we lived in Germany my wife was admitted to the hospital. When I visited I noticed patients being evaluated in the hallway. And she shated a room with three other patients at a time she needed more privacy. So that is whay comes to mind.

I know a few US citizens who went to Canada for childbirth. They were not impressed with the facilities but they recieved the care they need on Canada's dime.

All I can speak to is mine and those that I know of. But I have heard that we are facing over crowding do to the large numbers that Trudeau let into the country.

Wouldn't it be more likely that North Korea, or Russia, or China would give Iran a nuclear weapon, and not the United States national government?

We have that same issue in areas due to the large numbers Biden let into the country. But only in certain areas. I, like you, have not experienced that personally.

For the most part, US citizens do not care about politics. We do not really care about Canada (probably rarely think about Canada, the EU, Iran, Russia, etc).

We care about things in our lives, about rekationships, perhaps vacations or home improvement. Regular stuff. Politics are for the talking heads and sheeple. And for online discussion boards.

Personally, I consider a country, like the United States, which has lots of military installations in lots of countries around the world to be an empire.
You can. The word has been used in many ways other than the actual definition (like the Queensrÿche song).

I was referring to "empire" like the Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire, etc. The US is not an empire along that line.

I use the term "superpower" to mean what you call "empire".

But yes, using that deginition the US, UK, Russia, Turkey, China, India and France are "empires". They all maintain foreign military bases propitiational to their size.

Its not that the Dems would give Nukes to Iran - rather - they would do nothing to stop Iran from developing the Nuke!

Actually you do not have to be as you call them sheeple to follow politics. Some of us just like to know what is happening in our land.

Most of us even vote which if memory serves you do not do.

The question is why does Trum* get upset when we choose to trade with other nations?
That is an easy question to answer. For better or worse, Trump gets upset when the world is not talking about HIM.

It is just that simple.

So he says or does something to MAKE the world talk about HIM again.

We do rule our allies. Look at Germany.

Well, I think you are correct. China once went over the boarder of Vietnam over Vietnam invading Cambodia. Certainly we didn't talk either one into that. But that was a long time ago. Perhaps we didn't talk Argentina into taking the Falklands either. But that also was a long time ago. But technically I was wrong.

Colonialism all over again it seems to me.
