    The KJV Update Project

If my positions were never challenged then I’d probably still be in a works based religion so I see it as a blessing. Iron sharpening iron.

You seem like a nice guy but in my personal experience I’ve never encountered a more divisive group than KJV Onlyists. I used to be part of that crowd and my former pastor literally called James White a retard during a sermon. All because of this translation issue.

Would you agree that I can preach the Gospel to a lost soul using the NIV and if they believe then God will save them?

Nahum 3:16 (Oxford) - Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and fleeth away. Nahum 3:16 (Cambridge) - Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away. Which one is correct?

I guess I am in the same camp as Paul then because he wrote and spoke Greek words, not English words. Apparently all historians are liars.

I believe He did accomplish His purpose in preserving His word throughout all of the centuries with the Greek manuscript traditions that we have. That did not begin to happen with Anglicans 400 years ago. It is not just my say so, it is a fact of history.

The point is that some words are not literal translations from the Greek, they deviated from the original meaning under the direction of King James who had a bias for Church State rule. Would you say they were handling God’s Word accurately? Elizabethan English was becoming obsolete by 1611...

    The KJV Update Project

By that logic all the KJV translators would be in hell because they transliterated certain words instead of literally translating them. Baptize should be immerse, Church should be assembly, etc.

I fully understand that this is a translational choice. I am appeasing KJVO advocates who make this claim. The point I am making is that I can use that as an example to prove the NKJV does have CT readings. These folks are so nit picky to the point where they will assert word order, italics...

    The Remnant

The Left Behind movies pretty much convinced me how it will all pan out in the end.

    The KJV Update Project

Interesting, because it seems to follow every other mainstream CT translation in word order and my NKJV does not have a textual note on that verse where it should, which indicates to me that it is going along with the CT.

    What would you do?

If it were me probably option 2. None of these churches are perfect but should still attend every once in a while to have fellowship. Don’t see the age as a con but a pro. If they are older that means they can share their decades of spiritual growth.

John 10:12 (KJV) - But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. John 10:12 (NKJV) - But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own...

    The Remnant

I do agree that eschatology is something that should not be an area of major focus. I certainly don’t like listening to entire sermons on it.

    The Remnant

Romans 11:11 - I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. Here is how the AMP translation puts it… Romans 11:11 - So I say, have they stumbled so as to fall [to spiritual...

    The KJV Update Project

I came across a project that aims to produce a version of the KJV that simply updates archaic words to the equivalent of what we would use in our modern English. This sticks strictly to the Textus Receptus text base unlike the NKJV which has Critical Text readings in some places. Imagine the...

    The Remnant

The understanding that I have been brought up with is that there is a distinction between physical Israel and spiritual Israel. Gentiles are grafted into spiritual Israel by faith. Physical Israel will remain hardened until the last Gentile is grafted in. The purpose of this is to make physical...
