    The New International Version (NIV)

I've come to believe that the NIV, for the most part, strikes an almost perfect balance between formal equivalence and functional equivalence. Is it perfect? Of course not. Does it have its shortcomings? Of course it does. But there's a reason so many believers use it as their primary Bible...

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

Until I read all these specific examples from the ESV, I never realized how "clunky" the ESV is in the Old Testament passages. It's virtually unchanged from the old RSV of 1952/1971.

When a church tries to take the name Baptist out

I met a woman who stated she'd never attend a Southern Baptist Church. It turns out she was attending a Southern Baptist Church. She didn't believe it was SBC, because they'd changed their name to "Community Church," prior to her attending. I went to the "Church Search" feature on the...

    The herdsman pastor

The elderly, quite often, make foolish decisions (like children). That's why scammers have great success deceiving them.

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

It appears we've had worms appointed to positions of authority in Washington, D.C.

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

Perhaps the "worm" was unsuccessful in his bid for public office?

The reading level of different versions

In my opinion, due primarily to the use of Elizabethan English, the KJV is written at the college level (similar to Shakespeare).

IRS Stimulus check- Did You Get It Yet?

A neighbor of mine received a stimulus check in the amount of $2,400. $1,200 for himself, and $1,200 for his (deceased) wife. He checked the box on the front of the envelope which indicates "deceased." He then mailed the check (in the amount of $2,400) back to the return address, indicated on...

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

So far, we've got ESV 2001, 2007, 2011, 2016. Might as well have ESV 2020, eh?

IRS Stimulus check- Did You Get It Yet?

What is your sister going to do with your mom's stimulus check? Mail it back, or what?

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

I think it's time for another revised edition of the ESV. And the primary focus should be the Old Testament.

    The New International Version (NIV)

I find it interesting that many of those who admonish the KJVO crowd also show strong opposition to those who support the updated (2011) edition of the NIV, as well. It makes me wonder which Bible translations are capable of meeting their standards.

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

Most people have no idea that "the third hour " refers to "nine in the morning," for example, so I appreciate the fact that the NIV renders time in our modern fashion.

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

I will simply say that since I am not a sarcastic person, I do not view the posts of others as "tongue in cheek," unless this is made plain to me, via the use of emoticons, when in written form. If one is being sarcastic when "face to face" with an individual, sarcasm is usually obvious, due...

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

Now that we have punctuation, all those "ands" are no longer necessary. :)

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

Boasting about one's "extreme intelligence" is prideful, unwise, and definitely not "Christian."
