Scripture - given to the world or the Church?

I'm guessing many of us here, like myself, have taken Bible courses at secular universities, where study Bibles are used as textbooks to prove that the Bible is an interesting work of fiction, a fascinating historical document, utilized by primitive, naive, gullible people, like ancient Greek or...

I'm wondering if this helps answer question posed in the OP somehow?

I knew a woman whose daughter help her set up a Facebook account. Mom wanted to share photos of their upcoming vacation to Paris. Previously, Mom caught her daughter sending a text message to a friend with the acronym "WTF." Mom honestly had no idea what that meant. The quick thinking...

Scripture - given to the world or the Church?

Atheists often know what Scripture states better than Christians (and are able to quote the Bible, word for word). They use their knowledge of what the Bible says as a useful tool in their arguments against Christianity. Just thought I'd point that out (based on personal experience).

Is it Sinful not to be part of a local church?

Not if the local church teaches false doctrine or heresy.

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

I'd prefer to see a CSB vs. NIV, myself. ;)

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

I doubt there are any serious, conscientious translators/scholars who would be interested in taking on the task of revising the NKJV, at this point.

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

It's amazing how far KJV or KJV/NKJV only supporters will go to disparage all other Bible translations.

I really don't care for that phrase, "means of appeasement" in 1 John. It reads as if we're talking about sacrifices to the gods of Greek mythology. I find it to be a very odd rendering, to say the least.

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

The OP is regarding the ESV, in comparison to the NIV. Perhaps you'd like to start a new thread? The NKJV vs. the NIV?

The NIV In Comparison to the ESV. Part 3

Now that 19 years have passed since the initial publication of the ESV, I believe it's time to do a thorough revision.

    The New International Version (NIV)

On a personal note, it's so nice to be reading from the NIV again. When I briefly switched to the ESV, it (quite frankly) made reading the Bible a chore for me. Switching back to the NIV made me gain a newfound appreciation for it. One might say I've returned to my "first love," so to speak. :D

I believe that this serves to confirm the fact that the NIV is an accurate, trustworthy Bible translation.
