THE HOLY TRINITY IN ISAIAH 48:16

“Draw near to Me, hear this: from the beginning I have not spoken in secret, from the time it came to be I have been there. And now the Lord God has sent Me, and His Spirit” We here have a very clear Old Testament witness to the Holy Trinity. The Speaker is “Yahweh”, and He is said to be sent...

John The Baptist, Jesus Christ and Yahweh - Part 2

Yes, that sounds about right. I think the LXX get this as close to the Hebrew, and use it in the continuance, present tense, "I am". The Name YHWH, seems to mean "the eternal One", which is how the Jews who translated the LXX from Hebrew, understood, as they wrote, "I am the eternal One". Thanks...

    Paul and Festus

Ah, you seem to be arguing from predestination, am I right? This then is a problem, as I see the Bible as saying that God wills that none perish. rejection of Jesus Christ and the Gospel concerning Him is what damns a person, not that God did not "prechose" then

John The Baptist, Jesus Christ and Yahweh - Part 2

Thanks, Hank. Yes I know of the Revelation text. This is what Calvin says on Exodus 3:14, "I am that I am. The verb in the Hebrew is in the future tense, “I will be what I will be;” but it is of the same force as the present, except that it designates the perpetual duration of time". W F...

    Paul and Festus

"And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.” But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking true and rational words. For the king knows...

Inspiration/Infallibility/Inerrancy: To Be or Not To Be?

Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones in his book, What is an Evangelical, discussed "Essentials" and "Secondary" Truths: After the Great Doctrine of God. "Essential Truths So what are the essential doctrines for evangelicals that distinguish them from other Christians or professors of faith? 1. “The first...

Inspiration/Infallibility/Inerrancy: To Be or Not To Be?

Thanks for your input. I have reservations about the Nicene Creed, and its subordinationism of Jesus Christ to God the Father. As for Job, there is no valid Scriptural reason not to believe that he was a literal person. I don't think that we should detract from what the Bible plainly teaches.

Inspiration/Infallibility/Inerrancy: To Be or Not To Be?

Yes, and the great tragedy is, that they have a huge following who hang on to their every word! May the Lord grant mercy!

Inspiration/Infallibility/Inerrancy: To Be or Not To Be?

Textual evidence is more than Greek versions. I see that "ὃ λύει", was know to, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Clement, Origen, Greek manuscripts according to Church historian Socrates. These Church fathers are very early, though some also knew of "ὃ μὴ ὁμολογεῖ", which shows a very early corruption...

John The Baptist, Jesus Christ and Yahweh - Part 2

But, the Hebrew "Ehyeh ’ăsher ’ehyeh", can also mean "I will be, that I will be", the verb being in the future tense. the Greek (LXX) has it, "Eγω ειμι ο ων", I am the existing One".

John The Baptist, Jesus Christ and Yahweh - Part 2

Right, my mistake. I meant that "he" is not in the original. Thanks

Inspiration/Infallibility/Inerrancy: To Be or Not To Be?

Yes, very good points indeed. There is an interesting variant reading, which I believe to be the original, based on the textual evidence in 1 John 4:3. Instead of "ὃ μὴ ὁμολογεῖ" (that does not confess), it read, "ὃ λύει" (that separated) Jesus. Which is one of the main purposes of this Epistle...

Harvard Report: There Is A Huge Anti-Trump Bias In Corporate Media

As one who is from Old England, can I ask if Trump is an Evangelical Christian, as I have heard this here a few times? Also, will he stay the 4 years in office?
