Edwards on "Limited Atonement" and Universal Redemption

The great theologian who couldn't find anything in His theology against slavery. Cool guy. Methinks the Calvinism fatalism of whatever has been and will be was predestined to be made him see slaves as predestined to slavery

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

    What is six hour warning?

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

It would be decidedly funny were it not so tragic for some to flush Jesus Christ laying down his for our sins as the 'smoking gun' of God imagining and causing the very sins He is offering His son for

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

Circular reasoning is unavoidable but you disagree. Ok Great point. Why ground foreknowledge in decrees? This theory is not only scriptural but also untenable

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

All these supposed proof texts have been examined. Calvinistic exegesis or eisegesis is not the only valid understanding not is it the most reasonable. God can and has exploited certain events for his purpose without necessity

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

God is not responsible nor the author of what He infallibly decreed. Joke of the century. Replace the Fall with Light and try to argue that God did not create light; He just decreed light. Then somewhat there was light :Roflmao:Roflmaof Only by sheer force of will can one desperately cling to...

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

This is tautology or circular reasoning. Let's explore fatalism a bit. Whatever will happen will happen. In fact it must happen...can't possibly be otherwise. Without any relation to foreknowledge, one can still arrive at 'what will be has to be' Possession of perfect future knowledge does...

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

I would not wish to debate the 'biblical usage of foreknowledge' on this thread so I won't ask for evidence of your assertion

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

    They were predetermined?

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

@StefanM, What's so difficult in conceding that foreknowledge (possessing knowledge) of future events simply means knowing what will be, and from this it does not necessarily follow it has to be? What's the basis for the logical leap from 'it will be' to 'it has to be'?

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

The question is, why are they certain? What makes them certain? If they are certain because God makes them so or 'knows' them, then God is the exhaustive author of everything including my poor grammar at (pun) this post

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

Again, thank you. Would you say God predetermined 200 Americans to jump to their deaths off WTC?
  13. Agent47

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

Foreknowledge only requires certainty of events and not necessitation. 'It will be' does not mean 'it has to be'
  14. Agent47

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

So God predetermined sin. Thank you for your frankness:) Whether he decreed or permitted is irrelevant. He knew man would sin, therefore he predetermined Adam to sin
  15. Agent47

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

Meaning either God can't foreknow contingencies or contingencies don't exist, right?
  16. Agent47

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

Then simply say God predetermined all. Saying all was predetermined then hesitating to ascribe this to God is being economical with the 'truth' you subscribe to. So can you say God predetermined all things? It's rather a question of how God knowing translates into unfolding. If they unfold...

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

Doubtless,Foreknowledge at times bears more weight than possessing information about the future. It is the claim that for foreknowledge to be perfect (101% accurate), God must infallibly decree whatever he foreknows. This where where Calvin ended up in theological knots. Everything happening...

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

Things don't predetermined themselves. Look up it's meaning. So once again, predetermined by what? Is it poor choice of words or what? Jump to NOW. God knows whatever will be. God determined sin as well seeing it is part of 'all things', right?

If God Never decreed/ordained the Fall...

Presupposition All that God knows will pass exactly as he knows God knows all Conclusion God infallibly causes all to pass In short, God's certainty of foreknowledge is rooted in causation. Is this what you are saying?
