Possible U.N. Vote on Palestinian Statehood--What if the U.S. Doesn't Veto?

I'm in favour of a two-state solution but the devil will be in the detail, in particular boundaries, and in particular East Jerusalem. And where are these 'millions of evangelical voters' that Obama wiill lose? I wasn't aware that there were many or even any who voted for him in 2008...?

Fact check: The wealthy already pay more taxes

Poppycock! The richest 5% are the biggest tax-dodgers of them all. They have hotshot accountants able to pull all sorts of balance sheet gymnastics to reduce their tax bills. The very rich and very poor pay marginally very little in taxes; it's left to us poor sods in the squeezed middle to pick...

Does It Really Cost This Tea Party Congressman $200,000 to Feed His Family?

No-one needs to live on $200K pa. My heart really doesn't bleed for him..., poor little diddums... And, Sag38, 'theft' takes many guises...

Sarah Palin coke and s*x scandal

Did you say that about Anthony Wiener...or on the Obama 'Scandal threads'?

Sarah Palin coke and s*x scandal

So, thus far, we're tending towards the 'hogwash' option...

Sarah Palin coke and s*x scandal

Will this story scupper Palin's chances for the Republican nomination once and for all? Or will the Religious Right turn a blind eye to it? Or is it a barrel of hogwash? You decide!

    New Doctor Who

That's the thing about psychosomatic illness - it's not rational.

    New Doctor Who

The monsters were effectively quasi-psychosomatic projections, not under George's conscious control. Once the cause of his psycholgical upset was removed, the monsters disappeared too and everything was restored. I didn't find that hard to follow at all.

    New Doctor Who

'Night Terrors' was much much better IMO: discrete storyline, monsters, a problem with a solution and not much of a deus ex machina element.

    Soundtrack for 9/11

A couple of NYC radio stations have been asking their listeners what music (if any) they would like to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday. Top of the polls has been Barber's Adagio with Strings, followed by Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man. Another frontrunner has been...

    Christian First?

Christian first, family second, workplace third, church fourth, country fifth.

    New Doctor Who

Although 'Let's kill Hitler' answered for me more questions than it asked, I still subscribe to this comment: 'The difference between the 'classic'Who and the 'new' Who is that children could follow the plots of the former whereas no-one can follow the plots of the latter'.

    Smoking

Weird; I quit over 10 years ago and after about a couple of months have never had the urge to start up again. But I only smoked around 10 ciggies a day.

    Drinking Alcohol

Ale should be room temperature so I agree that it is not appropriate* in a hot summer. I have to admit (but don't tell anyone!) that I drink chilled lager when on summer vacation in the Med. * ie: not refreshing

    Romans 3:23-5:1 debate

For example: How does one determine (and indeed who does the determining!) what's minor and what's major? Because you might, for example, apply different criteria for assessing what's major and what's minor, such as which of Paul's letters were written first and whether his subsequent letters...

    Romans 3:23-5:1 debate

Because you don't know whether you're putting the cart before the horse or not. The point is that you - from what you are saying - have decided what the major theme is in advance and picked your Scriptures based on this, rather than the other way around. You may be right in that - but equally...

    Romans 3:23-5:1 debate

But you still have to fit this greater context within the still greater context of the Pauline corpus as a whole which in turn has to be read within the still greater context of the whole NT and in particular the Gospels; God gave us the whole Bible, not just a couple of chapters of it...

Unions, have they overstayed their welcome?

Slight correction (as far as it applies this side of the Pond): many (I won't say most) union bosses work for the advancement of themselves.

    Romans 3:23-5:1 debate

I'm not talking about 'pitting Scripture against Scripture', but putting the individual passage you want to discuss in its proper Scriptural and exegetical context as any sound Biblical scholar would wish to do, rather than attempting to view it in 'splendid' isolation, which is what you seem to...
