The Man on the Middle Cross

Simply knowing the words of Christ and trusting them. John 6:37. "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out." But tell me, you who are relying on your faith: how do you know that your faith will endure? How do you know that some crafty...

    Dispensationalism

Belcher's book seems to be a hatchet job. I have recommended in the past that you read the biography by Iain Murray. Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones wrote in around 1950 to a young man considering the ministry; "Don't waste time reading Barth and brunner. You will get nothing from them to aid you with...

The Man on the Middle Cross

Not at all. Both @Brightfame52 and I have stated that looking inside yourself to see if you're elect is fatal, as is wondering if you have enough faith. We must look to Christ. Let me tell you a story: Thomas Bilney (you can look him up on line if you want) was a newly ordained priest in the...

The Man on the Middle Cross

I thought that just about everyone had seen ths little video clip, but I was just browsing through the 'Determinism' thread and @Silverhair and @Psalty were continually asking @Brightfame52 how he knows he's saved. Here's the answer:

    Dominion vs determinism

It's bedtime in England now and I have a church leaders' meeting early tomorrow morning so I won't be able to reply any time soon. But perhaps you will kindly tell me where I used the word 'conditionally' in my post? There is a difference between the Sinaitic covenant and the new covenant...

    Why Witness?

Gosh! Go first to Matt. 14:14, and then to Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:46-47; John 20:21; Acts 9:15; 10:42; 11:19-21; 26:17-20; Romans 10:11-15; Eph. 4:11 ('evangelists'); Titus 1:5. I probably have left quite a few out. But perhaps you may think that most of these texts were only...

    Dominion vs determinism

No problem! Take your time :) Just compare Exodus 19:5-6 with 1 Peter 2:9-10. Exodus 19:5. “Now therefore if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people.” 1 Peter 2:9. 'But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, His...

    Dominion vs determinism

Those in Christ are those for whom He died (Eph. 1:7 etc.). Those whom God will graft back in are the Israelites. The vast majority of these were never in Christ (see my post #156 above). The idea that someone can be in Christ, then out again, and then back in again - born again, then dead...

    Dominion vs determinism

You should not confuse the 'old' (Sinaitic) covenant with the new covenant in Christ Jesus. The Sinaitic covenant was made with a people, not with individuals. Consider Exodus 6:6-8. Very few indeed of the people addressed there made it to the Promised land, but the nation did. This national...

    Dominion vs determinism

Thank you for thinking it's nice. :) The non-elect are those who are not elect. I didn't think it was necessary to point that out, but perhaps it was. How have I done that? I may possibly have done it to your definition of election, but not to God's. Called elect by whom? Not at all...

    Dominion vs determinism

???Confused Newsflash: the Gentiles aren't all elect. Only those for whom Christ died are elect. The Father has chosen a vast crowd (Rev. 7:9) for salvation, and given them to the Son to redeem; and He will not lose even one of them (John 6:40 etc.).

    My 10,000th post

I believe this is my 10,000th post. It seems a huge number, but I see that others are at 40-50,000, so it's no big deal. Nevertheless, thank you to all those who have taken the trouble to read any of them, and a double thank you to those who have been kind enough to 'like' them.:)

    Dominion vs determinism

We should indeed look at the context, but you have not done so. Indeed, I find myself wondering if you actually know what context is. Oh dear, oh dear! One of the major ways of finding out the meaning of a word is to compare Scripture with Scripture so as to find out what the word in question...

    Dominion vs determinism

I was just quoting Scripture. The Greek word used for 'compel' there is anagkazo. It is also found in Matt. 14:22; Mark 6:45; Acts 26:11; 28:19; 2 Cor. 12:11; Gal. 2:3, 14; 6:12. Check it out. I don't think anyone 'compelled' or 'constrained' by the Lord is going to refuse. But Jeremiah 31:3...

Finding the right definition of a word in the Greek

@Guido. This is the best advice you will hear on this board. The English word 'will' can mean the future tense, a document bequeathing one's worldly goods or one's desire or determination to do something. When we see the word in a sentence we always know which one of these is meant. How? Context!

    Dominion vs determinism

Luke 14::15-24 (excerpts). "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.' But they all with one accord began to make excuses......... ......... So that servant came and reported...

    Gender-neutral Versions

There is a Greek word for 'sister, adelphe, which is used 24 times in the NT. Of those, adelphe is used together with adelphos, 'brother,' seven times (Matt. 12:50; 19:29; Mark 3:35; 10:39; 10:30; Luke 14:26; James 2:15). So there is no problem with the Biblical writers (or the Holy Spirit)...

    Gender-neutral Versions

This is actually not masculine singular but masculine plural. Just saying.

    Gender-neutral Versions

Here is another example of using 'They' to translate the singular: Hebrews 10:29(NIV 2011). 'How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing, the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who...

    Gender-neutral Versions

I have no problem with this passage because it is not changing singulars into plurals. If I were desperate to please feminists, I would translate it as ".... who desires all people to be saved....." This allows the 'all' to mean either 'every person on the planet' or 'all kinds of people' such...
