Did Jack Hyles advocate any heretical views?

Before anyone asks, Hyles took most if not all of these positions after John R. Rice died. I have had several fundamentalist leaders tell me they thought Hyles went off the rails after the death of his mentor in Dec. of 1980. I don't recognize any of those doctrines Ascetic X mentioned as being...

Recommendations For Fundamental Bible College or Seminary?

なるほど (Naruhodo, "I see." :Coffee) To be clear, the church here had a split caused by aggressive Calvinists many years ago, so the theology has a very negative vibe here--though to be honest, the commentaries of John MacArthur get quoted in sermons sometimes.

Recommendations For Fundamental Bible College or Seminary?

You are correct about the old BJU. However, nowadays they have become quite a bit looser, or so I hear. They now allow the girl students to wear pants, and they have a travelling bluegrass band. Check it out: .

Recommendations For Fundamental Bible College or Seminary?

This is a good post, but in my branch of fundamentalism the definitions and stands remain the same as those my grandfather (first generation fundamentalist John R. Rice) and other fundamentalists took in 1957 when New Evangelicalism and fundamentalism split over the Billy Graham New York...

Recommendations For Fundamental Bible College or Seminary?

One thing a parent should consider in this age of romantic licentiousness when looking at Bible colleges for a child is, what is their stance on dating and courtship? It is so easy nowadays for young people to get into trouble in this area. They may not mean to, but once the feelings are taking...

Recommendations For Fundamental Bible College or Seminary?

Bob Jones has drifted somewhat towards New Evangelicalism in my view and the view of some other fundamentalists I know. It's still a good school, but it's not Baptist and never has been. (I went there for two years back in the day.) It's going downhill, IMO. I was there for a Bible Faculty...

What is written vs. What was said

Correct. Inspiration is in the original text. All evangelical scholars of bibliology held to this until Peter Ruckman came along in the 1970s and claimed that the KJV can correct the original languages. The Aramaic word for God in that verse is 'ĕlâhh (אלהּ). It is in the plural, but can be...

Recommendations For Fundamental Bible College or Seminary?

Maranatha Baptist U. also has a very good nursing program, the best in Wisconsin according to one survey, and several of our young people have done the program.

Recommendations For Fundamental Bible College or Seminary?

Thirsty1, I started a private conversation with you about our college, Baptist College of Ministry (BCM). Up front, we oppose LGBTQ and have no such students. We have no clubs on campus, but the young people fellowship in "Fellowships" named after famous missionaries. We have no intercollegiate...

Is the KJV's rendering the most accurate in these ten passages?

I have no problem with Lantz's 4th point., except to say that meaning of "offend" was perfectly literal in 1611. It's just not so now. I believe the same is true of "error" in his 5th point; "error" could mean "sin" in 1611. The Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary says, "Greek, 'ignorances'...

Does Speaking against the Worship Styles of Other Christians of Other Cultures Show That Someone Is a Not a Legitimate Christian?

Got it. Or the Church of Christ which is against any musical instruments. Weird, considering all of those in the OT and Revelation.

Does Speaking against the Worship Styles of Other Christians of Other Cultures Show That Someone Is a Not a Legitimate Christian?

I agree with almost all of this list, except that there are no tracts in Scripture. John's Gospel is a tract (20:31). Some would say that it's too long to be a tract, but IMO shortness is not a criteria for a tract. But wait, no coffee and donuts??? Confused Interestingly enough, they...

    It is Finished

Kind of hard to deny that with those Scriptures. The thing is, the language in those Scriptures is metaphorical, not literal. (Christ's literal blood was not traded to Satan--or whoever, etc.) I'll answer reasonable questions like yours.

    It is Finished

Since Christ had become human, he had to learn obedience. This of course does not mean He disobeyed at some point. We have a 2 year old granddaughter, and she is daily learning what to do and what not to do at Grandpa's house. The sin that shows up in this process is disobedience (rebellion)...

    It is Finished

I've done my best to stay out of those endless arguments on this matter, but since you ask politely, here is what I believe, and this is standard evangelical theology. Christ "died for our sins" (1 Cor. 15:3). The word "for" is the Greek preposition ὑπὲρ, with the object "sins" in the genitive...

    Strange man threatens theological education

I completely agree. I worked my way through college in a dirty factory. That makes my college education much more valuable to me than if the government had paid for it. :Coffee

    It is Finished

All of this is true, but there was only one thing fulfilled when Jesus said "It is finished." The verb was 3rd person singular, not plural, so Jesus had only one thing in mind when He made that statement on the cross.

Is the KJV's rendering the most accurate in these ten passages?

Lantz's third objection to the KJV is Acts 5:30. He gives the following quotes: Acts 5:30 (KJV) says, “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.” Acts 5:30 (NASB) says, "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross.”...
