A KJ-Only church.

If I attend a church as a guest & the pastor preaches from the KJV, fine, but if he shows he's KJVO, I won't ever attend that church again, as I know it has at least one false doctrine. (The KJVO myth) If I see "King james Bible Only" or similar on a church's shingle, I won't set foot in it for the same reason.

Then maybe you should read the church constitution (including the doctrine statement) to make sure there are no other false doctrines. before you visit any other church.

I'm definitely IFB. My church doesn't follow nor believe any man-made doctrines of faith/worship, including the KJVO myth. OTOH, you seem to be in thrall to that myth. And our church believes all the other things you mentioned, & so do I. That's why I joined it.

And who said I or my church uses the NIV? We use mostly the NKJV and NASV We believe in baptism by immersion in water, for those who are saved, not for babies, nor by sprinkling. We practice the foot-washing ceremony twice a year, & Communion every 2 months, with bread & grape juice, as close to what Jesus did at the "Last Supper" as possible. Our pastor preaches hell fire & brimstone, something sorely lacking in many churches today.

Your KJVO myth is entirely man-made & phony as a Ford Corvette. Its origin & other reasons why it's false, besides its total lack of Scriptural support, are explained in other forums. God has caused His word in English to be translated into CURRENT English, as He's allowed/caused the language to change, same as He's done in other languages.(John of Japan & friends are making a modern Japanese Bible translation, for example.)

So, any church which follows the false KJVO myth has at least one false doctrine in its makeup, and your judgment of me is simply wrong, distorted by your thralldom to the KJVO myth.

Not if I thought he was learning his weird doctrines from that church. However, I doubt he is because he has opined that he has a special ministry from God to harass people who believe the words of scripture, opting for an authority for themselves from languages they cannot read. He is the second biggest hypocrite who posts here claiming a ministry like this and failing to produce a biblical teaching that God cannot and will not preserve his scriptures in translation while insisting ad nauseum that I produce a scriptural argument for mine.

Wrap your head around this claim. God has equipped him to condemn people who believe God after God has said he will send unbelievers to the lake of fire, which is the second death? What kind of sense does this claim make to you?

The KJVO issue has always been the sticking point for me, I'm a critic of the movement. The reasons the proponents of KJVOism give to make their point I think are not exactly honest. But still, there is nothing wrong with the KJV in itself and I don't want to be a troublemaker.

When I look over the doctrinal statement of this Church it is exactly the same as our old GARB church, same as Philadelphia College of Bible when I took classes there in the early 1990s and many other organizations (which were not KJVO). The sole exception of the addition of the KJV statement. Based on my belief system everything except the translation issue is what I would look for in a church.

In the past year I have heard the words "King James" from the pulpit exactly one (1) time and that not in a way that would say to someone visiting that the church believes that anything other than the KJV is of the devil. It is true that I feel the pressure to take a KJV with me when I go there. That is true but it is pressure I put on myself because the issue really hasn't come up. To me being Baptist means something, it is not almost the same as being Methodist or Presbyterian. I don't have an insistence in it being a strictly Baptist church, I have been in "baptistic" churches in the past and would do it again but doctrine is the thing I look at.

So what is my point? I had one instance where a member brought up KJVO talking points. My impression at the time was he was trying to get me to declare my feelings on the issue for his own personal information. He knew that I wasn't exactly a newb. This guy chose the tactic of bringing up the copyright angle. Without any thought I responded that just about any KJ Bible edition will have something (notes, annotations, concordances, maps) which will be copyrighted and for what? And without skipping a beat I mentioned that the KJV was copyrighted in the UK which honestly I don't think this guy knew. After that I decided to put the matter aside with him and proceed as if it never happened and there has been nothing about it since. I'm at the point in my life where I don't need to be right every single time, I don't need to win every single argument.

These days I do my personal study at home with a NKJV. If the place that we go to were to hammer the KJVO doctrine I probably wouldn't attend but they don't so it's no problem. I really haven't had any discussion in private with any of the staff on the issue, I'm way overdue on that and I don't know if making a big point on it would be worth it because in every other doctrine I have agreement. My overall sense is that this church has backed down on a few things and is trying very diligently to keep any legalism in check. No church is perfect and I'm certainly not.
