Calvinism is Mistaken Doctrine

Let's take a look at some other Scriptures that shed some more light on the subject. Remember - God doesn't contradict:

Proverbs 16:33 "The lot is cast into the lap,
but its every decision is from the Lord"

Proverbs 20:24 "A man's steps are from the Lord;
how then can man understand his way?"

Proverbs 21:1 "The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord;
he turns it wherever he will."

Jeremiah 10:23 "I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself,
that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps."

Proverbs 16:33 is in English. Therefore God never said it. How do you like your reasoning know. :)

Proverbs 16:33 says the result of the chance outcome of throwing lots is from the Lord. Not only are all the factors, i.e. physics, that control the event from God, but God allows or causes the outcome. This verse provides absolutely no support for the idea that God causes the result in every case. That view is an unwarranted extrapolation, the speculation from which Calvinism arises.

Proverbs 20:24 says since the limits of our purview are not always or perfectly known, we cannot know what the outcome of our planned path will be. Again this verse provides absolutely no support for the idea God causes the result of every step we take. When we step into sin, God did not dictate or predestine that choice.

Proverbs 21:1 says that God can control and turn our heart in any direction, which of course includes allowing our heart to turn of its own volition. Again this verse provides absolutely no support for the idea that God causes, rather than allows our heart's volition.

Jeremiah 10:23 says again that our way is within the purview allowed by God, we only go where He allows. Again, this verse provides absolutely no support for the idea God causes the result of every step we take.

Note how all the Calvinists posting simply deny Jesus said, in Luke 10:31 things happen by chance. One actually said, because this is a translation, Jesus did not say it. No kidding. Calvinists use absurd twaddle to nullify and make to no effect the very words of God. Why its in poetry, why it was spoken by a man, why it appears in a parable.

1 Samuel 6:9, Watch, if it goes up by the way of its own territory to Beth-shemesh, then He has done us this great evil. But if not, then we will know that it was not His hand that struck us, it happened to us by chance.

The very words of God do not say what they say if it conflicts with the man-made doctrine of Calvinism. Behold how the Bible is not actually the final authority for faith and practice of Calvinism. "In a rush to deny true Biblical doctrine, men create false doctrines based upon shoddy Biblical exegesis or upon taking Scripture out of context." So apt!

Jesus saying "things happen by chance" as you define it is not in the text.

Note the word games and efforts to dismiss and deny God's very words. What does Luke 10:31 say?

31 By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. (WEB)

31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. (NKJV)

31 And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. (NASB)

31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side. (NET)

We have Jesus telling us things happen by chance, and some verses in the OT which also indicate things happen by chance. What that means is the event was not prearranged.
This is how I defined the idea presented by Jesus.

Talk about false doctrine, yours takes the cake. I honestly pray for your enlightenment as Paul prayed for the Ephesians. Stop beating your head against the truth and acknowledge it.

Yet another post, devoid of content, simply disparagement. This is all they have folks, change the subject to their opponents behavior, misrepresent their opponents views, and condescension to the max.

It was not His hand that struck us, it happened by chance.

You quote the words of uncircumcised Philistines. Think about it in the light of the whole story. This is NOT proof of "chance".

Good Grief, I quoted four different versions of Jesus saying things happen by chance.

This is all they have, folks, one absurdity after another. LOL

Lets consider Ruth 2:3 where she happened to be gleaming in a field owned by Boaz. The word translated "happened" literally means, according to the NASB footnote, her chance chanced upon. Here we have the narrative of Ruth, an inspired book, telling us that she just happened into that field, it was not prearranged. She might have gone somewhere else. But her chance chanced upon that field.

Thinks happen by chance, they just happen, not by prearrangement according to several scriptures. Thus again to return to topic: The correct Biblical Doctrine of God's sovereignty is that God causes or allows whatsoever comes to pass. And God allows some things to happen by chance.

Exhaustive determinism is just one of many mistaken doctrines being pushed upon the SBC by liberal Calvinist acolytes.

The passage you havve used 4 different versions on is a parable. They are not meant to teach doctrine, they are meant to illustrate a specific teaching. In the case you site, it is about who is my neighbor.

I agree with MexDeaf about praying for your enlightenment. And I'm not even a Calvinist.

Next up the topic changer, but Sovereignty, and whether God allows things to happen by chance is on topic.

Actually, Rev is not changing the topic, you all have been. This thread is about the statement issued about Calvinism by a SBC study committee.

Van, you use every chance to ride your favorite hobby horse. Hobby horses are wonderful, but yours has no backup in Scripture, and is false.

I apologize for contributing to the derailing.
