You have mixed up two different passages, but I get your meaning. As I read Scripture, we are to give an
answer for the hope which lies within us, and we are to
preach the word in season and out of season. Nothing there about defending truth.
According to my software, there are no passages about "defense of the truth".
Yes we are to
earnestly contend for the faith, but I do not understand it as 'defend the truth' per se.
Simply speak the truth, God will quicken it to the hearts which are ploughed enough to receive it. And speaking of ploughing, that is the Holy Spirit's office.
Jesus is the Truth, yes? Did He bother defending Himself, or did He simply speak the truth?
