Alcoholic beverages

Company had a Christmas party yesterday. I went to it, although this year I did not get $300, but regardless the Lord knew what he was doing. The only day I missed for the year (not allowing me to get a bonus) was a day I took off for religious reasons. Well it did no count against my job, but it counted against my bonus. Oh well.. I think I may need to stay away from these types of dances. This was a secular party and they played all the exact same music as the so called Christian singles ministry in this area. The only difference was that at this party they did serve alcohol (however I drank nothing). I cant stand alcohol anyways and its horrible taste. Although if they had Mikes Hard Lemonade or Hard raspberry it would have been tempting since those drinks are loaded with sugar and I have a sugar addiction. I used to be a major sugar alcoholic. So is drinking a struggle for you guys?

John[/QUOTE]According to what you believe, or your body rebels, or you have no will power. The Bible says it is OK if you wish. But if you prefer not to partake, for whatever reason (other than saying God does not approve), then don't do it.

That's wonderful that you are a member of a "science based" program but the studies fully agree with Thinkingstuff. I've been told by my doctors at times to have a particular alcoholic drink. Science proves it out.

What genius you have.. Care to cite anything?

Source: Mayo Clinic. You can read the full article here. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/red-wine/HB00089

Did you read the article?

Red wine and something in red wine called resveratrol might be heart healthy

Even if there is something in red whine that is healthy, what makes you thin that one can only get the health benefits from alcohol? Why not eats fruits, vegetables, drink water, and exercise? That would be far better for your heart than red whine which in theory is not supported by all doctors.

I'm trying to get a grip on the true meaning of "legalist."

Would those who make up their own rules about the expected behavior of Christians - despite what scripture says - be lagalists? Perhaps there is a different label for them (in light of people's approval of the use of labels here)?

Even if true why do you think one must drink instead of more healthier activities and foods & drinks? Its far better for your heart to eat fruits & vegetables, eat good foods low in fat and carbs, get in your vitamins, healthy oils, and exercise. I had a physical the other day ago and the doctor never once mentioned to drink to improve my health. He said I continue to do what I am doing in my weight loss program which utilizes the things I mentioned above. In the daily healthy guidelines, not once is alcohol mentioned to consume. The guidelines clearly say water is the healthiest liquid for you. Any doctor who disagrees should not have a medical license.

You don't know that.

Wine may indeed be better for you than fruits and vegetables.

But more than that, why SHOULDN'T you drink wine if ti has a health benefit?

Who are you, or anybody else, to condemn what God has not condemned- in fact what God has commended?

Perhaps the question is not, why WOULD you drink wine- but rather why WOULDN'T YOU?

Important guidelines for healthy weight loss

The Good Health Guidelines guide you toward healthy choices as you lose weight. These guidelines ensure you are getting the nutrients, vitamins and minerals you need to boost your health while losing weight. Check off your "Healthy Checks" as you meet them each day in the PointsPlustm Tracker.

The Good Health Guidelines
1. Eat at least five servings of vegetables and fruits each day, (nine servings if you weigh over 350 pounds.)
2. Choose whole-grain foods, such as brown rice and oats, whenever possible.
3. Include two servings of milk products - low fat (1%) or fat-free - each day. If you're a nursing mom, teenager, over 50 years old, or weigh more than 250 pounds, you should have three servings of milk products each day.
4. Have 2 teaspoons of healthy oils (olive oil, canola, sunflower, safflower or flaxseed) each day.
5. Ensure that you are getting enough protein by choosing at least a serving or two of lean meats, skinless poultry, fish, beans, soy products, and lentils.
6. Limit added sugar and alcohol.
7. Drink at least 6 8-ounce glasses of liquid a day. Water is the best choice.
8. Take a multiple vitamin-mineral supplement each day.

Note it said "limit" candy and alcoholic beverages. No sane scientist or doctor would think alcohol and candy are better for you than fruits and vegetables.

Eating less fat will help you lose weight too but God does not condemn eating fat. In fact he commends it in moderation. He tells us to "eat the fat and drink the sweet..."

Of course healthy eating and staying hydrated is important. There is no question about that. But do you have heart disease in your family? Are you at high risk? Then maybe a glass of red wine each evening would be beneficial to you. How about your wife? Did you know that light alcohol use has been tied to a decrease in the risk of alzheimer's? I have to say, if I had alzheimer's in my family, I'd seriously consider having a couple of drinks a week to decrease my risk of getting that terrible disease. But again, it's about moderation. ONE glass, ONE drink. Not a bunch. ONE. When I did drink, in an entire month, I'd have maybe 3 drinks tops. That's certainly not abusive, IMO.

Paul told Timothy to drink a little wine for his often infirmities.

If Paul said that in a church today, to a pastor, he'd get attacked. Just like some on here are attacked for doing so. Others, to be fair, just have agreed to disagree on this thread. That is a mature way to handle this.

Wine has been shown to be beneficial to health. It has been used for thousands of years, and of course Jesus made the best wine ever tasted by man.

Weight Watchers is an excellent program - I'd dare say the best diet program out there as far as healthy life-long eating. I agree with all that they have said.

Actually it's the carbs (or at least in my case)..... :)

It's both less carbs and less fat. Fat is fat and a little is good for you (very beneficial) but too much is bad. Complex carbs are also good for you in smaller quantities but you don't want too many. I make too much insulin so any carb I get even if it's from whole grains and veggies makes me gain weight so I have to limit it but completely eliminating it would be dangerous for me.
