Paul told Timothy to drink a little wine for his often infirmities.

If Paul said that in a church today, to a pastor, he'd get attacked. Just like some on here are attacked for doing so. Others, to be fair, just have agreed to disagree on this thread. That is a mature way to handle this.

Wine has been shown to be beneficial to health. It has been used for thousands of years, and of course Jesus made the best wine ever tasted by man.
To be fair if Paul were preaching today he would be tossed out of churches and stoned to death by about 98.748358732185631% of our churches.

OK this is off thread, however I have a question kinda related to alcoholism. I support the AA Program that works (the famous step programs) to get an alcoholic to abstain & then to manage his/her life. Why doesn't the Baptist Church support AA?

I'm totally not knowledgeable about AA but don't they have some stuff that's semi-religious that's not quite compatible with Christianity? I know our church has it's own recovery ministry for alcoholics and drug addicts and it's been very good from what I understand.

Surprised.....no. Your an intelligent man & you can read. Knowledge is vital to intellect. Who is the author & what is the title & premise of the book?

I know of Baptist churches that allow AA groups to use their facilities.

If AA does Ann, Im not aware of it. My wifes group reads from scripture & prays together...glad you have a recovery ministry. God's blessing on that.

Hello.....Uh....my....uh...name...is...Thinkingstuff...and i'm a soda aholic...Can't seem to stop...So here I am....

LOL - I was thinking the same thing. When I posted that when I drank, I maybe had 3 drinks a month, I was realizing that I do about the same with soda. I need to not drink too much soda so I try to limit it to one a week. I fill in the rest with seltzer, especially if we're out. :)

At this point I think the more problematic addiction around here is for some of ya'll who keep posting incessantly in these alcohol threads. ;)

AA is non-commital when it comes to god. He's generic as far as they are concerned as an overall organization. A door knob can be your higher power as far as they are concerned. You may be sober but your door knob god will only land you in hell sober. But, that doesn't mean that a church can't use the twelve steps while emphasizing Jesus as Lord.
